Title: New to the boards, new to my C5!
Post by: Markasaur on October 25, 2012, 04:23:12 pm
Hey everyone, My names Mark, and just picked up a brand new '12 C5 in battle green this past weekend, Ive had my eye on this for quite some time and things finally fell into the right place for me to pick it up!  Got it with 23miles on the clock, already put it up to 140!  Its a pure joy, and im ear to ear grinning everytime i hop on!.  Even in this short time i have had a few issues, makes me really see that having a Enfield is a 'unique' thing! Ive learned alot from just browsing the forum, and hope to be more active as my riding skill and tech skill increases!

Here she is! (mind the bad framing, wifey took the pick with a cellphone)

Thankyou guys! yea i plan on learning all i can, Still being new to riding im trying not to fuss with the bike too much, but im already having a few 'issues' the airbox cover on the right side randomly pops open. and even aimed all the way down, my headlight is shooting into the sky.  Little things that im sure can be tweeked.

Usually i wax the stache up into a full handlebar, i was feeling quite lazy that day. but ill get some more pics up once i can, right now Im Looking at some local army surplus stores for a set of bags, ive seen some members here do some nice work for storage!

The headlight is adjustable with the two screws in the holes on the front of the headlight.

In my opinion you picked a *great* first bike.   I started on a '93 Katana junker (kinda heavy), and almost immediately followed it with a 2006 BMW R1200 GS.   Simply put, the GS was beautiful, expensive as hell, and just a bit stressful to ride.  I eventually realized that fighting 500 pounds of motorcycle was taking the fun out of things, and the BMW logo was burning massive holes in my wallet.

I have found the C5 to be light, forgiving, and a blast to ride.   Oh, and parts are cheap.

Ride the crap out of it, keep the bolts tight, and love every second of it!!

Or, as in my case, probably my last bike. But it do serve well!

Welcome aboard Markasaur and congrats on your Bullet.

Brother mja is spot on here.
Ride the crap out of it, keep the bolts tight, and love every second of it!!
and I agree.

Mine needs little to no fussing with when ridden regularly. Let it sit for long and it lets me know that was unwise on my part.

Blue Loctite is your new best friend.  ;)

Many happy miles and many smiles per gallon to you.

Welcome, Markasaur!  Stick around; if you're like me, you'll learn heaps here!

I'm pleased and amused by the reactions to, of all things, your mustache!  Nobody has ever told me that my facial hair accessorizes well with the vehicle I drive.  I see now that I'm clearly going about things all wrong...

Not to hijack, but Ice - ummm...  would you mind elaborating on that second sentence?  Being in Maine and getting ready to let mine sit for a few months at least, you've caught my attention!

Nah,,,no hi jacking just some Bullet riders talking.

About the sitting for long thing. Mine is an Iron Barrel and more susceptible to the shenanigans.
REgular riding keeps it limbered up and humming along but If it sits long little things happen like an almost invisible layer of rust will form on the brake drum friction surface making the breaks grabby for the first dozen uses, the turn signals get lazy, it balks at idle, shift stiffly, those sorts of things.  The normal vibrations from running keep my Bullets electrickle  ;) connections polished ;)   You probably already know regular use keeps the seals conditioned and the moving parts from rusting.

Our forum brothers living in snow States have good tips on pickling your Bullet for winter storage if your interested.

Yea, dont worry about any hijacking, good info is good info wherever its read from!  Thank you guys!  Been busy moving into the new place, just got internet back up.

If it wasnt for the forums id be lost, last night on the way home from work, my bike just stopped in the middle of stretching 3rd gear, had to pull over in thick traffic, not fun..  damn vibrations hit the kickstand switch off.  So that is removed now! haha!  Checking into ordering some bags, visited a local surplus store, and their selection was pretty awfull, im going to try that link you sent me above!

Cheers!
