Title: g5 project teaser
Post by: jartist on July 15, 2011, 09:09:42 pm
I couldn't wait for the paint to dry to show off my project. It's a sub-subframe for my G5 that mounts a lycett style front saddle for the pillion complete with rear rack and saddlebag mounts. More to follow...

Nice piece! Did you modify something or did you weld freehand?

Freehand. The G5 subframe is a nice sturdy clean slate to bolt stuff to. I just hope the 4 small bolts are strong enough.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. All the Nfieldgear rear seats have a frame piece that mounts to the shock bolts in addition to the small subframe bolts. I guess at least make sure you have the highest grade M6 bolts in there you can find.

I bought that rack for the G5 but it doesn't fit the 2011 because they changed the tail light assy and the trafficators are in the way.  It would work if you relocated the trafficators but I had to make a custom subframe for the pillion anyway so I incorporated a rack into that instead.  It would be much sturdier if I also mounted into the shock bolt like the nfield gear rack does.  Yes, I definately upgraded the bolts and went one size up on the two rear bolts but we'll see how the 6mm bolts hold up- they're pretty small.
