  • METEOR Supernova - Breakout 114 - Sportster 1200
on: June 21, 2022, 09:07:47 pm
Good evening everyone
I have a question, does the Meteor have a speed limiter?
In fact, my Supernova cannot exceed 120 km/hour, the engine no longer takes rpm, as if the fuel injection were cut off.
I saw videos talking about this limiter, what do you think?
Good to you all ;)

The bike definitely has a limiter on it. Once my speedo gets to 72-73 mph (about 115 kph), it just stops; it won't go any faster. I don't know WHY RE went to the trouble though; the laws of physics and aerodynamics would've held the Meteor's top speed to 75 (120 kph) or so anyway. I used to have a Honda Helix scooter that didn't have any of that, and no matter what I did, I could never get more than 72-73 (115 kph) out of it. Granted, it had a 16 hp engine, but it weighed less. It also had a big windshield on it. Anyway, I think that if Royal Enfield had left well enough alone, the Meteor wouldn't have gone much over 75 (120 kph) in any case.

If it's anything like the 500 Bullet/Classic models with the UCE motor it's a rev limiter rather than a speed limiter. It's designed to stop the engine being over revved in all gears - not just top. As there is no rev counter on these models the limiter is there to stop the engine being damaged by excessive engine RPM. An unfortunate side effect of this is that if the engine in under-geared the engine will rev out in top gear and bounce off the rev limiter - it's the engine RPM that's being restricted and it's unfortunate that this also limits top speed but that is not the intention. If the gearing was slightly higher this wouldn't happen and the bike would reach it's 'natural' top speed without being 'limited' - but that speed would probably be only very slightly higher than it is now.

I believe it's an electronic limiter, do a search on here.  There's a YouTube link where somebody proves it.

According to some folks, with the limiter defeated, they were able to reach 81 mph

A response to be found here suggests that machines are both rev AND speed limited, the latter using input from the ABS system sensor, and that different markets have received ECUs setup with different limits:

If you have money to throw at it, and aren't afraid of hacking your ECU a tiny bit, ... there's a gadget:
