Cool !
Thanks Phil.

It's funny metrics. Sizes like 11mm and 13mm .
-
European cars and bikes tend to use these sizes. The Japanese did until around the late 60's/early 70's. They then changed over to the 10/12/14 we are more familiar with. The Chinese units I sell tend to use the European sizes, but lately they seem to be moving more to the Japanese sizes.

Those sizes you both have mentioned are not thread sizes!!!! Your sizes are true spanner sizes or jaw width!
The metric thread sizes are defined by there true thread size which is their diameter.

You are right. The point is that the European model would use an 11mm head on the 6mm fasteners and a 13m head on the 8mm fastener. The modern Japanese model uses a 10mm head on the 6mm fastener and a 12 mm head on the 8mm fastener. Six and eight are the THREAD diameter. The spanner or wrench uses the 10/11/12/13 sizes. In the same vein a 6mm Allen screw uses a 5mm Allen wrench. An 8mm Allen screw uses a 6mm Allen wrench.
