I changed to a Tsubaki o-ring chain a year or two ago and it was clearly beefier and broader than the oem o-ring chain.....great quality.  I had changed my front sprocket to a T19, but after I added a 4.0x18 rear tire, I lost more torque than I wanted to.  Anyway, I took things apart to go back to a T18, and the chain has ground off a bit of a groove on the inside plate that covers the kickstarter hole in a 2010 C5. A couple of the bolts on this cover plate have had their heads whittled down as well.

I am not too concerned about this as there isn't anything further than can change, but was wondering if anyone had the specs on the widths of various good quality 530 chains......would be nice to find a skinnier one for my GT.  Thanks.

Go back to a standard, non-O-ring chain.

They are cheaper, they don't rub and they will last for thousands of miles before they need replacing.

Arizona,
I was waiting for that logical answer  :) :) :)
The o-rings are just so much less maintenance that they are hard to beat.....there seem to be a couple of x-ring options that "look" a bit narrower.  I was hoping one of our friends here just might have some personal observations. Thanks.

Sorry for the smart ass comment stating the obvious.

I could give some links to standard chain sizes but the standards control the roller size, the spacing between the rollers and the width (or length) of the rollers.  In other words, the features necessary to assure the chain will work with the sprockets.

The outside width of the chain isn't really controlled and it is a function of the side plate thickness and the presence of things like O or X-rings.

Each company seems to have their own requirements for the overall width of their chains and most of them don't publish it.

About the only way I can think of that we could get a accurate number for these overall widths would be for our members to measure the pin length over the outside of the outside links and the distance over the riveted ends and tell us what the number is and what company made the chain.

For instance, the standard, non-O-ring Diamond chain, made in India that was on my 2011 G5 from the factory is a #530, .655 over the side plates and .745 over the ends of the rivets.

The topic interests me, but I read that the O-ring chain absorbs about 1 hp.
It is true ?

When comparing size for size a sealed chain definitely carries a higher loss than an unsealed one. The amount would vary dependent on make, size, weight and friction.

I just measured the overall width of a 530-size DID X-ring chain and it is about 23mm wide across the plates. That is a lot wider than the stock chain on my B5.

My 2014 C5 came with an O-ring chain.

I've put well over 2000 miles on the clock and no need for adjustment after the first 600 miles.

I'll measure the one that came on my bike.

Arizoni,
Here are some more numbers....might be off by 0.5mm, but should be pretty close. Maybe others can add to this as well.

Your OEM G5 Diamond Non-O-ring 17mm at plate and 19mm at rivets.

My OEM GT O-ring 20mm at plate, 22mm at rivets, 23mm at clip rivets.

Tsubaki O-ring 22mm at plate, 24.5mm at rivets, 26.5 at clip rivets.

Thanks for getting us started.

My 2014 C5's factory supplied o-ring chain is 20mm at plate and 22mm at rivets.  Unsure of what brand came on it, but it seems to be a good chain and has stretched very little and shows no signs of binding yet.  I wipe it down and lube ever 300-600 miles with Bel Ray Super Clean (great stuff by the way).

The chain on my 2014 GT is probably the same as your C5....definitely seems better built than the one that came on my 2010 C5.
