Title: leaky gas cocks

I JUST got my '45 WD going, but have serious leaks at both of the gas cocks, where the gas lines attach to the cocks (it's the old fashioned kind, like a compression fitting).  Is there any way to stop the leaks, like adding some sort of plumbers tape that can withstand gas to the threads?

If its leaking from around the threads and not the fuel tap itself, go to NAPA and get a drain plug washer/gasket that has the rubber on the inside that goes around the threads of the tap. I use them all the time on British bikes.

If you still have problems getting the threads to seal use a very small amount of Permatex® Form-A-Gasket® No. 2 Sealant.
It is a non hardening gasoline resistant product that won't wash away and contaminate stuff downstream.

If you have to use a sealer use Gasiolia E Seal. It's ethanol proof and is what most fuel station repair guys use. If you don't have to use ethanol gas where you are then Arizoni is right on the money. If you have ethanol it will melt the Permatex. It's thinned with alcohol. ERC

Hi Bill,
Fuel leaks are serious business and many collections have been burned to the ground because of bad petcocks. I would contact a professional and get a new set with the appropriate gaskets spacers and whatever you need to fix that problem for good. The parts are inexpensive and available. Any company that deals with British motorcycles should have everything you need.
