Help please!
2020 Classic 500, 2000 miles, just started momentarily losing power and engine light coming on during gear change. Intermittent.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Adam.

I'm trying to get my brain around this one.  You say you're losing power during gear change. Do you mean just before pulling the clutch, just after releasing the clutch, other?

It seems to be right as I release the clutch, it dies for a second or two then picks up again. Oil level is good, revs are kept normal/low.
Thanks.

Check the wires going into the back of the relay sockets, a few members including myself have found one of the wires doesn't stay locked into its hole properly causing momentary loss of power then back to normal. Might not be the answer, but worth a look. My dodgy connector was the one with 2 wires into the 1 connection slot.

Thanks Mark, I’ll check them, my dealer also said to check the kick stand kill switch which has been a common issue.
Will let you know. Big thanks for your input.

I'd check battery ground and chassis ground.  When voltage swings, ECUs throw error codes and may shutdown to protect themselves.

Yep, just disconnect it and leave it disconnected, protect the plug with a bag and tape.
The switch can activate with vibration cutting the engine, happened to me a coupleof times while overtaking, killing the engine leaving me in a very dangerous position, needless to say the switch was disconnected and that was 8 years ago......

Thanks Johno,
The kick stand switch had one loose bolt and the other almost out! I’ll take it out for a test run tonight and let you know.
Cheers mate.

Just a loose fitting on the stand? Perhaps the connection to the gear change was coincidental in that the loss of inertia might have caused the stand to sway about a bit?

The stand is fine, it was the switch that bolts to it that was coming loose. I agree the inertia from the gear change could have opened/closed the switch.
Thanks.

Went out for a few miles tonight, no problems at all. It was intermittent, but I’m pretty confident the loose switch was the problem. Thanks to all for your advice .

RE Vibration strikes again!  :-)  Glad you got it sorted proper like.  And I"m REAL glad we don't have that cut off switch on our bikes down here. The only thing that switch does here is turn on a light to tell you "Hey, bub! Your kickstand is down!"
