The only thing I didn't like about the Meteor was the feet forward riding position.

I guess to really make it a "classic" style, it has to have the spoked wheels and therefore tubed tires, which was one of the main reasons I nixed the 650 Interceptor - the other being the terrible seat.

Nice looking machine though and this should sell well to the purists.

The pricing is key to the success of this machine, if it's a cheap rag around & thrash bike, and being a 350 I think the buyer is then caught in a dilemma of wishing the bike had the power of a 500, which will be the case. No doubt expensive tuning parts will be come available. The C5 in std trim is only good for about 75mph and thats pushing it a bit, a 350? it looks pretty, the video looks good, hang on for the 500? I say.

That aside, in my opinion, this is a really fine "looking" bike. And thankgod they finally binned the Mickey Mouse mirrors.

I will be interested in hearing what dealers will be charging for the Meteor and Classic 350's over and above the MSRP. Around here many (but not all) dealers have creative "fees" that they add to the base price on popular motorcycle models, including unreasonable "setup", destination and "our price" fees that milk the customer for additional profit (sometimes as much as 15 or 20% more) for a popular vehicle.  In other words, whatever they think the market will bear. And you usually don't find out about those "fees" until the salesman has you hooked on the sale.   

I still recall the last car that I bought, my 1998 Saturn station wagon. I bought that car even though at the time I wanted a Honda Accord. When I went to the local Honda dealer the price was $3K over the MSRP. When I asked the salesman why the price was so much higher than the manufacturer was advertising, he told me that was what the local market would accept and if I didn't like it, other customers were waiting to buy the cars. So it was off to the Saturn dealer that sold me my SW2 for exactly what manufacturer advertised and stated on the price tag. 29K miles later I remain satisfied with my decision.

I'm thinking the same thing on fork oil changes. I'll check my dealer's shop manual to see. Not a deal breaker fer me as
it ain't hard to fab up a mounting boss for a drain screw and tig weld the sucker at the proper location.

The more I see of these bikes, the more I dig 'em. The under 400 cc insurance rates in BC be a big factor as well.

Are there any motorcycle made today that have fork oil drain plugs?  I can't think of any.

Maybe not today, but my ST1100 has them, although, you can never get all the oil out just through the drain plugs. To completely drain them, fork removal and dump upside down is the only way. No sense in doing a half assed job of it with drain plugs.

That chrome bronze is next level. I bet when they bring it to Europe it will be 4000-4200 euro. I do not like they added LCD, looks simply horrid. Beautiful bike though, it will be a hit, even though each reinvention of the Classic brings us further away from God. Where is the kickstart? the pushrods? the vibrations?

Excellent find Frank, thank you for sharing. Not only a great review of the new Classic but a terrific comparison to the Meteor. The seat looks so similar, I wonder if the optional seat springs could be used on the Meteor.

The reviewer seemed, to me, to be struggling to find points of difference.  The Classic's 4kg weight over the Meteor translated into 'much heavier', the steering effort was 'much higher' as did the 40mm seat height difference.  I found it a bit unbelievable

Well, the two bikes are mechanically very similar, so I guess he had to split hairs to find their differences.

My dealer is up to 40% in extra selling fees on the REs.🤯 Nothing like killing the golden goose so to speak. They still have four of the first seven Meteor 350s shipped to them still on the floor and they are wondering why they aren’t selling. Personally I would not  pay it. I’ll be looking on buying my next RE elsewhere if this crap keeps up.  All but one dealership here in the NW are Harley dealers also and from what I’ve been hearing the one Triumph/RE dealer is even worse now. I tried to buy a NOS 500 Chrome from them back in 2019 at that time they wanted $1,500 more in selling fees over what my dealer was asking.

I ran in to that! I don't have the paper in front of me right now, but my Meteor cost like $5,800-$5,900 out the door.
