Hey, Ice!  I'm in North Tacoma and I'm pretty sure I may have seen/heard one of you thumping around my neighborhood not too long ago.  It's been a busy summer but after this weekend I'm finally free to work on the bike and get her back on the road.  That Portland ride will be a great one to finally throw in with y'all!

 PM sent !!

So, that is the weekend before the solar eclipse and there may be some extra southbound traffic heading to the Salem area and other places in the path of full eclipse.  I suspect you'll be coming by a route other than the freeway, so probably won't matter too much.  Just something to think about for that date.

I can think of two places that would be good for lunch for the group.  One is Lardo East.  A place with tasty food and good beer.  Their indoor seating is limited but they have a large tent outside with lots of picnic benches.  No dedicated parking lot, but parking in and around there is usually easy enough to find.

The other good place would be Kelly's Olympian, an indoor downtown bar that's the third oldest bar/restaurant in Portland.  It has a dozen or two vintage bikes displayed inside and/or hanging from the ceiling.  It's downtown so parking is a bit more limited, though there are about 6-8 moto spots out in front.

If neither of those is appealing I can come up with dozens more, just let me know.

Also, before leaving, a fuel up with coffee from See See Motorcycles should be in order.  It's both a coffee shop and a motorcycle shop owned by the guy who hosts the One Motorcycle Show every year.

There are usually a few bikes on display along with the custom helmet collection and the adjoining shop has gear, apparel, and accessories for sale.  They also now own the local KTM shop which I think is a few blocks away.

Let me know what you all think :)

Yes to all the above !

 More to follow.

Any suggestions other than Facebook ?

There are some concerns for the bikes.  What are our best option(s) for good parking and decent food ?

Message sent to the first half of the roll, and posted on the RENA facebook page under "community", with a link to this page.

As for the location for lunch, finding somewhere not too far from our route back would also be good.

Still being a bit on the new side as a rider, this will be by far, the longest ride ever for me.  Unless there are more people to meet up with here in Seattle, I may just haul the Madras Missile down in my truck, to a meet up point further south.

Riding the Peninsula from Kingston or Bremerton down through Shelton and Olympia may be an option for us Northern Bulleteers as well?

I'd say though Kelly's is really cool, parking will be limited and many of us may need to park well away.

Lardo will probably have some parking nearby/within sight, and the surrounding neighborhood is nice enough that I wouldn't worry about parking in it, though nothing is as good as parking at the Nick :)

I'd say Lardo is the better bet, but let me see what else I can come up with.  There might be a better option I'm just not thinking of.  Gimme a few days.

Which way are you coming down?  Which way are you heading back?

Scott

If you goggle map Roy to Portland and check the avoid highways option that will give you our route down.

For the return trip we will back track to Vader then go east on HWY 506 to HWY 12, then RT on HWY 12 to HWY 7, then LT on HWY 7 to SR 702, then LT on 702 back to Roy.

Lardo's does sound good. sounds great and they have vegetarian and healthy dishes on the menu.

Ok.  Both of those routes drop you right into NW Portland.  Unfortunately, I don't think there's much in NW Portland that suits us.  It's a bit more urban with smaller places, not much outdoor seating, and places don't have their own parking lots.

The east side it better on all counts and only a 15 minute ride through town to get to.

What's your ETA?  I can plan to meet you as soon as you roll into the edge of town and guide you from there.

Oh, and is this on Saturday or Sunday?  How many have signed on so far?

A buddy of mine recommended a place that I think will suit us just fine.

Good food, good beer, and good parking with lots of outdoor tables.  It's in North Portland, but again, just a short ride through town and over a bridge from where you get into town.

And the name is perfect for that weekend!

North South East West upside down Portland wherever you want to meet up we will be there. Depending on how things go we should be in the greater Portland between 11 and 12 noon.

The word I have is Saturday the 19th, and I do believe that's rain or shine!  :o Preferably shine. 8)

Can't wait to touch Portland pavement to my K-70's! Your bridge grating could be fun too!  :o

Funny, bridge grating tends to cause me to have visions of the divine, something like near death experience!  ::)
