Man, the pictures from the farm really bring back the memories! Beautiful stuff.
The trials photo listed as a BSA Gold Star is actually an Alloy Clipper, a 4 year model with alloy engine, alloy tank and fenders. It is the Gold Star family, but not ever called that. They were basically a factory trials bikes and very successful. They were released to the public, but not a lot were sold and they are very rare today.

Thanks, Bare.

Most British classic bike enthusiasts will have heard of the Royal Enfield Clipper, but the BSA Clipper is barely known.  It is a close relative of the famous Gold Star model.

The 500cc B34 Clipper was purpose built for Dirt competition and, like the Gold Star, it has an alloy engine. The exhaust sweeps high to give ground clearance and a centrally mounted oil tank keeps the machine narrow as well as saving weight.  A four-speed gearbox with wide trials ratios and a trials-type lightweight sprung saddle are fitted.

Few examples of the BSA Clipper are thought to survive.

The Bike at The Farm has a frame that looks like a Sammy Miller Trials frame, based on a Ariel Trials Frame.  The engine could be from a Clipper but more than likely it started life as a Gold Star.  The Clipper is just so very rare.

Cheers,
Bill

Enclosed are photos of Clippers and the bike at The Farm:

The motorcycle dealer I dealt with in Wyoming when I was much younger had one still in '95. He died that year, but I suspect his son who was also a Suzuki dealer in WY has it now. Neat machines.
I had a '59 DBD34 in the early 60s. Fun! :D

Bare,

Thanks, very cool! ;D

In 1967 I had a 441 with 11.5:1 compression ratio.  I had a Trials type saddle, like the Clipper, on it, but I didn't Trials it, I did trail ride on it, and it was a BEAR!  Loved that monster.

Royal Enfield people are good people.

Cheers,
Bill

I like the Nick and can find my way there with no problems, that said I can print a map from the Nick to Smarty's and tape it to the fuel tank.

Invites to the get together (and this thread) going out as we speak.

Any objections to folks posting a flier at their nearest dealership ?

If you want Mike since Bill H. will be in Hawaii, I could meet up with you and lead to Smarty Pants...acually easier to get to than Nick....and I know some good twisty back roads there.... ;).besides last time i met up @ the nick (redhook run) everyone just kinda stood out in the parkinglot seemed kinda odd. ??? and ANY bike nut will appreciate Smarty Pants... ;D
