In the very early years of motorcycles (1892)  there was a 5 cylinder Millet rotary engined bicycle with the engine built into the rear wheel and a tricycle with the engine built into the front wheel.

Then there was the 1922 Megola , a 640 cc Rotary engine powered bike with the engine in the front wheel. About 2000 were produced in Germany.

1922?  I could swear that thing is right out of the 60's.  Didn't I see it in the movie version of Tommy?  I did!  Elton John was riding it! :P

I tried a little "off roading" yesterday. I pulled off the side of the road and up a little slope to do some photog. the bike as pointed uphill, not very steep and the ground was a hardpack with kind of a silty layer on top. I had the front brake on, but the bike started sliding backwards down the slope, and my foot was sliding, too. I slid for a couple of feet while the the bike is leaning farther and farther over. It finally stopped and I was right at the edge of dropping it. I finally got the sliding foot under it enough that I could get it upright again. I it had been one of my older heavier bikes, that sucker would have been down, assuming it would have started sliding in the first place.
Those Avons gotta go. I need some K70s or something with a real tread!

You should definitely come to Backfire!  I'm almost always there, along with both my brothers on their Bullets.  Toddygirl (Amanda), and Jourdan are usually there as well, and sometimes 500KSGerry (Gerry) and Blltrdr (Brad) as well.

I will be there on the earlier side of things as we're heading out of town Thursday early AM.

Those are some nice bikes.  I love the older military's with no chrome.

That Guzzi?!?!?!?  I think the owner has too much time on their hands and too little sense ;)
