can i put the halogen equivalent on the bike so has to brighten up the front end, and take away the candle power headlamp...cheers ::)
cheers

Sure can...
Any 55/60W hallogen in the appropriate size should work without a problem. I treated mine to a fancy Tri-bar, but you don't have to go to that extreme to get the candles.

cheers mate

Yup; get a 7" halogen sealed beam...it'll seem like you've been riding about with a dim flashlight taped to the handlebars all this time.

One other thing I ought to mention... instead of a standard three-prong plug on the back of the headlamp, there are three individual wires... which I pulled without noting which went where. When I plugged the wires into the new bulb, it seemed to make light no matter where they were, but only works the way its supposed to when wired correctly.
Someone here probably the correct wiring written down... wind chill is below 0F outside and my garage is COLD, so I'm gonna pass on taking a look at it this evening. If you don't have a 7" headlight in it already, you'll have to obtain a new ring. Readily available from CMW, Hitchcock's and others.

I did that 'forgot-to-note-which-spade-terminal-goes-where' routine when removing the headlight shell for other wiring mods. ::)
I was pretty close. Only thing though was that when reassembled it worked with the dipped beam on when the switch was in the full beam position and vice versa. A quick swop over of two terminals sorted that out OK :D

thanks for the help so far

I have the 7 inch tri- bar and made the mistake of walking out of my garge which is on an incline and turning around to see how bright it was.. :o Had a spot in my head that moved where ever I did :P

Anyone know if there is a halogen light to replace the stock headlight?

yes. I bought mine at

I think the model was

It is a white light and a pleasure to follow instead of that yellow beam. I had to bend some tabs on the back of it to make it fit, and swap the green and blue wires putting the blue in the middle. Also had to make a rubber ring to help fit tight cause I bent the tabs too much.

Mike.
Is that lense a direct exchange fit or need some fettling to allow it to fit? Does it also have the little 'sidelight' bulb holder in the lower section?
Cheers, LSM

I installed the 7" halogen conversion from CMW (with the removable auto type bulb) on my '02 500 ES.
The improvement in the quality of the light was remarkable and the 7" glass looks so much better than the smaller stock glass.
The lighting improvement alone was worth the cost, but the (IMHO) superior asthetic appeal is a big plus too.

I want to stay small (ooh err missus!) due to the nature of my bike (500 ES Army/Military). Think it'd look best staying like it is, but I take your point DD.

LSM- just some minor fettling to some tabs on the back. It is a complete replacement with a holder in the back for the H4 halogen bulb. Oh yea, I had to remove the 3prong plug and put spades on the wires.

Three prong plug? Did your RE come with that then?
Mine has the three spade terminals as std. Just as well really as the bulbs tabs have to be bent sideways to allow the headlight to fit back in without it fouling the speedo cable!
-
So is that the trick, bending the prongs so the assembly will fit back in? I recently received the tri-bar and found that there is almost no room for the bulb to fit back in. I put the stock light back on for now.

My bulb 'prongs' basically face at about 80* to their normal position and they clear the speedo cable fine like that! ;)
