Title: The Bench Seat From Hell
Post by: dhanisch on December 10, 2009, 10:54:01 pm
Actually got my G5 up to 80 the other day.  Naturally I was on what could be called a closed course.  It seemed to have some more to go.  One will see.   The seat.  The seat was designed by a sadist.  I'm either going to have to go to a solo/pillion setup, which I'm not sure can be pulled off, or find a decent dual seat.  Any fellow sufferers out there have any input?

I've been eyeballing this seat.

Don't know much about it,except its spendy. Call to see if it will fit a G5.
Most of my rides are 20-40 minutes ,so I live with the stock banana seat.

I noticed a bit of rear end numbness after about 2 odd hours, but nothing like the SV650, definately an improvement.

Cheers  :)

Interesting - I've had absolutely no problems with my G5 seat; I find it very comfortable. It does rather restrict you to one position fore and aft, however. Just happens to be a good position for my 5' 8" and 150 pounds.

I did a long ride up the east coast, from NC to NJ - seat was quite comfortable. I didn't, however, take my G5 to 80 mph, though - I'm guessing the vibration was very strong at that speed. At a more leisurely 65, the bench was comfortable. My wrist did hurt, though - need to pick up a throttle-rocker or something.

Took a while to get my stock dual seat " broken in" . Comfortable now.

On both My RE and Urals the only concession I have ever made to form over function has been to add solo seats to these bikes because I really like the looks. I've always ended up trying to get the silly $&@@! solo seats somewhere near the comfort-level of the stock bench seats. I'm really surprised that you're trying to to the opposite. Maybe the stock bench seat is REALLY uncomfortable for you - at least until you put on a sadistic solo seat and find out what REAL discomfort is.

I was thinking of a custom seat built with either silicone bags.
You know the kind Dolly Paton uses.
Or one with Mustard seeds. Stitched into it.
Gotta find a guy who works with leather and come up with something interesting.

Pozer,

I had that seat on my 2002 Bullet. I loved it, it was very comfortable and worth the money. Plus it just looked fantastic, it really added to the vintage feel.
