Title: Easy C5 rear wheel removal
Post by: Ducati Scotty on July 17, 2011, 06:17:10 am

This same technique works for the C5.  You do have to remove the lower bolts entirely and loosen the uppers, but the fender swings right up and out of the way making the rear wheel a piece of cake to remove.

No need to move the fender to get the back wheel off a G5. A bit of wood, inch or so, under the centre stand and it'll slide right out. Did it again just the other day. Isn't it the same with a C5?

Does that work on the B5 also?

Yeah, I use piece of 2x6 under the center stand, works great.

I wasn't sure it would with the fender struts.  The manual says you need to lean the bike to the right a bit but there are a few things in there where they state the G5 procedure and forget the C5.  I did think about a 2x4 under the center stand but figured I'd try this first.  Compared to leaning the bike or yanking it up on to a 2x4, this seemed to take less muscle than both and with my back (and inherent laziness) that's a good thing ;)

@Scott:  Like you, I also find it hard to yank the bike on center stand on a 2" high wood.

@r80rt and @Will - What is your trick to do that ?

I use two  pieces of 5/8" plywood, stacked. 12" bye  maybe 2 or 3 feet long? Cause that is what I have laying around.  Layed flat , put down the side stand, center the wood where the center stand is and pull. I would think a Piece of 2x8 layed flat would do just as well.
Scotty, it is good to know you can lift the fender in a pinch, on the side of the road. Or even in the garage.  Did you have any issues with the notch,in the front of the fender, where it sits in the rubber bush?

 Not that I noticed, but I didn't look either :)  I'll check.

Just give it a yank, it's easy to pop it up on a block of wood and change the tire.

Yep, I agree. It's just a good yank onto the block, and the wheel slides out easlily without having to tilt the bike over. Less effort and safer too.

Hell, I'm lazy ! I live on a dead end street ( no traffic ) so I just use the center stand on the curb of the sidewalk and let the rear wheel hang over the street. This gives me 5+ inches clearance.

Hey WillW,
Thanks for the compliment. Sometimes you have to step back, relax, and look at the " Big Picture " of what problem you are trying to solve.

So even if you use a 2x4 for rear wheel removal remember this techniqe for removing the rear shocks.  The top bolts are captive behind the fender struts.  This is an easy method for getting them out of the way.

Sorry, but that is just too easy a solution.

Hello Professor,
I hit the wrong key and posted an incomplete message ! What I was trying to say was that " sometimes the easiest method is the best way....start out simple, and if it does't work, improvise " !
