i'll see if my dad can make a few more if anyone else is interested
my dad machined up these plain tappet covers for me and is working on a finned one as well.
i'm not trying to turn this into a sale thread but if anyone would like one i've got one plain polished cover, and one sand blasted plain cover.
picture attached
my dad also did up some black plastic swing arm bushing covers for me because I lost one of the stock ones on my first ride.
-
I thought these looked pretty boss compared to the ultra shiny covers
-
Oh man..while you were posting this, I installed the tappet cover from Hitchcocks. My stock chain had died and I ordered a better one from Hitchcocks, and decided to get the tappet cover too. I just installed it literally 5 mins ago. It looks good too, however I wanted a plain one like your dad has made. Mine says "Hitchcocks Performance". ;)
Oh well, I might get one from you in the future!
-
i will buy the sand blasted one - pm sent
regards

Nice!

Thanks for doing this, I'm "in-between" Enfields right now, having sold my C5 Special end of last year. Miss it and want to get back in .. I'm torn between another C5 and the G5 Classic. Weighing pros and cons of each right now. Anyway, when I had the C5, I tried to find a source for a plain, polished tappet cover, just hated the "EFI-500" script - spoiled the 'vintage' look. What I find interesting, the 2010 models had a plain tappet cover, no script at all. I don't know why they had to change this.
At any rate, I'll buy the polished cover it is still available. Thank your Dad for me!
Dropping you a PM right now.

Can he engrave it ?

absolutely. i'm going to need him to do up a few more.

I got lucky, I've got a 2010 with a blank plate and I like it that way. I can see where this might help sell bikes in India but in the US people like the old school look. Heck, Triumph got custom throttle bodies made to look like carburetors when they switched the Bonneville to EFI.

yeah, everytime I look at the "EFI 500" I just get a little upset on the inside. I mean, clearly most of us love the old school look that's why we have an enfield and that tappet cover just messes up the flow!
-
b.sheets...your Dad did a great job with those covers...I'd love to get one from you!
-
The other weird thing, there's nothing in there! Since we have hydraulics they could have just made the case one piece and skipped the plate altogether.

so many people don't even notice the efi-500 plate! or the r RE name on the tank. typically,"what kind of bike is that?" "who makes that?" "what size?" you know, the questions we answer all the time. not a bad thing, for sure.
-
I love this:
"What kinda bike is that?"
"Royal Enfield." (pointing to tank)
"Who makes that?"
"Royal Enfield."
Blank stare, pause, "Oh."
Scott
-
This trumps all "When did Harley make that?"
-
To which you can respond, "No, Indian sold these." Not even lieing :)
When I used to pull in to the local Harley dealer on my Ducati they thought it was a Buell. Now they think I'm riding some weird kind of old Harley. Really nice folks but not much perspective.

That's better than
"What kinda bike is that?"
"Royal Enfield." (pointing to tank)
"Who makes that?"
"Royal Enfield."
"Never heard of them. Are they some new start up company who's trying to make a old fashioned 'retro' bike like a Harley?"
-
"Harley? Oh they were in business years before Harley." Again, not even lieing :)
-
so has anyone asked you if you bike is a replica???
i have gotten that several times.
i say no, it is a genuine Royal Enfield.
they just fired the design group in 1955, just like HD

Lies! Harley had at least two new shades of black paint this year!
-
yea, verily! have you found RE in your heart?

i'll see if my dad can make a few more if anyone else is interested
count me interested !

And me... let us know!

Just for reference..this is how the Hitchcock's cover looks. Excuse the crappy quality of the picture..but it looks very neat in person.
-
Plus Two JVS !
-
It does look neat, but kind of in the way the "500 EFI" cover looks neat: shiny, fits well, does it's job - but it's got that wording stamped on it that I'd rather not have. To each his own...
-
Yup. The good thing about this one is that the engraving is not as deep as the 'EFI-500' and is polished/same tone as the body. You know how the stock cover always gets your attention (in a bad way :-X)..this one actually doesn't. It blends in. But yes, a plain one should suit the engine more ;)

A plus. And, I shouldn't begrudge Hitchcocks their props...
