Hello fine gentlemen of RE riders, I've got a 2021 Classic 500 EFI as my first bike, and I have just done 1000kms on it.

Question: Is it acceptable to shift up to 5th, and *maintain* 50kmh? Does that count as "lugging" the engine?

Also, I've heard this thing about hard break-in, I tried it and it does feel like the vibration @80kmh+ is getting slightly better. Is it good for the engine and should I keep doing it?

Cheers,
Mike

I calculated that in top gear, my C5's engine would be spinning 37.3 rpm for each kph.  (59.7 rpm / mph).

Assuming your C5 has the same ratios as mine, at 50 km/h your engine would be spinning only 1865 rpms, which seems quite low.  Personally, I only use 5th gear above 70 kph.  ( ~45 mph)  I am rather large, and weigh over 100 kg, but the machine is still the largest component of the total mass.

At 50 kph,
in 4th gear, your engine will be spinning 2255 rpm.
in 3rd gear, your engine will be spinning 2834 rpm.

Either of these would be healthier for your engine, in my opinion.

Yep, 50kmh is third gear speed.
Like Axman88, I do not select 5th gear until over 80kmh (50mph).
Off route, recalculate?

On my '21 500 it didn't like 50km/h in top when the motor was new but once it had about 3000km on it it would happily sit at 50 on a flat road. Just don't expect it to accelerate quickly from such low revs. Hard run in means wearing the motor out fast. Racing bikes may do it because they don't care how long the motor lasts. Bad idea.
