Campfire Talk / Re: What's that all about ?

today i "blocked" a person on another social media platform because she suddenly deluged my feed (i expect all of her "friends" got it too) with a dozen apocalyptic endtimes posts saying that all this war-mongering is gods' will to hasten the 2nd coming so she can go to heaven, never mind the suffering caused to the other 5 billion people on the planet, and all the other life forms which would be exterminated, because "god loves us" or some other self-serving nonsense.

I installed these:

A while back I got caught in a thunderstorm...heavy rain and riding through 1 foot deep water....bike began to run on one cylinder!  I think it was wet ignition wires....

These are completely sealed, Not screw-on terminals.

No they don't look vintage....yes the red looks cool....and they are "racing" cables, so they have to be good! (LOL)

more rifle cartridge trivia, because i just know you [sarc] guys and gals are waiting for it with bated breath. [/sarc] that, and i'm bored.
the krag was originally loaded with plated round nose bullets, same as the bullets for the M1903, which was designed to use the 30-03 cartridge, which were replaced with pointed bullets in the 30-06 cartridge in... 1906. because better aerodynamics.

650 Interceptor & Continental GT / Re: New Bike

Love those boxer engines with the built in leg/crash bars! Are those sacrificial pucks on the top of the head? Anyway gorgeous black BMW! My jaw dropped when I first saw one.

i think your right.  the internal insulation on both the made to look retros and the oem's look the same - however it may be they are now.  i.e. the retros are cheaper material etc.

Personally, I'd refit the originals.
That said, I'm from the 'if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it' school of thought.

I have a 2023 GT650 and updated the spark plug wires from OEM to the braided retro style wires.  The diameter is the same - and i've been running them for a while now.

However - the other day i touched one of the spark plug wires and it shocked the hell out of me.

I inspected everything and the plug wires are secured properly, and seated properly.

is this common?  or should i put my OEMs back on?

Bullet with the UCE engine / Re: Which RE engines are Non-Interference?
« Last Post by Aesop on Today at 03:27:31 pm »
This sounds like a question for Richard211.

Myself I can't imagine the 2-valve motors being non-interference (NI). The pushrod engine failures would likely lead to a "non-valve-opening" event as the Pre-Unit and UCE are gear drive cams, the pushrods being the weak (bendable) link. The OHC 2-valve motors ( J-Model, 411 Himi ) could possibly lose the cam chain tensioner and start skipping teeth.

The 4-valve motors ( 650, 450 ) are OHC, but 4 tiny valves give you more possible "clearance slop" than two big ones. These may possibly be NI engines. The "tell" though might be that even the 650 pistons bother with valve reliefs cut into the piston crown, indicating that they are not actually NI designs. If they were, why bother with cut outs? More places for ping-inducing carbon hot spots to collect & hide. My speculation is that if the piston has valve relief cuts, it's not NI.

Richard211 lives in Royal Enfield country so should have a much greater opportunity to see these failures. He'll know, shoot him a PM.

411 & 450 Himalayan & Scram / Scram emissions

Am I right in saying there has only been a Euro 5 version of the Scram so they are all the same in regards to all the emissions paraphernalia? I presume there will be more added for Euro 5.5.

Bullet with the UCE engine / Re: Front forks 2018 Bullet 350 UCE

ATF is fine, it is chock full of seal conditioners. It's a good generic starting point being about a 15W oil. Actual fork oil varies from 2 1/2W to maybe 30W.  Use what works for you.

While you have the fork off, take it apart and create a drain plug. A 5mm screw is adequate. Why there aren't already fork oil drain screws is beyond me. It's good to change out this oil at least yearly to remove wear particles, and it shouldn't be a chore to do it.
