I knew one of the handlebar bolts was not good. It had a bit of give, then the head came away leaving the bolt in its hole. I will take it out with an easy out tool bit.

Fitted the replica BSA M20 bars. They are the same width as the RE bars. Lower and more pull back. So low that clearance for the throttle cable to tank is very close. Did not need new cables etc. Two metal screws used to help stop the bars from moving in the clamp because no knurling and RE knurling is in a different position that any other bars because of the way they are mounted. I have used this method on my C5 Bullet as well.

Ditched the panner frames and pannier bags and just using an ex-USA Army bag. For serous travels I have a set of water proof Kriega saddlebags to use.

The quality of some of these RE bolts is poor. From a few I have removed  on the silencer cover and in removing seat  a few threads were stripped requiring new bolts. I think it would be best if any bolt is removed to just replace it with a good quality bolt.

Weird, if you undo the clamping bolts below prior to the positioning bolts on top that shouldn’t happen unless these bolts really are 90% cheese 🤷

Combo of cheese, over tightening at factory and locktite from factory. On one bolt.

This, and the bolts are fine if a bit soft.😉

After making several different brackets to mount these handlebar clamps to I just drilled 2 holes in the originals clamp and there ya go. I wanted the handlebars to be a bit higher.

Handlebar brackets Mk.II. I found where I had drilled the holes in the original bracket was curved. This allowed the clamps to flex. So used to bits of angle bracket. In fact cut down shelving brackets. There is now no flex because the clamps are sitting flat surface to flat surface. Added a "decoctive" plate to fill in the gap between these two brackets. As this has now mounted the handle bars higher i been getting asked why did i not just buy the RE high Touring bars? A) Cost. I did not want to spend the money. Everything i have done for this fitting has come out of my pile of "junk" Including the handlebars which i had fitted to my C5 Bullet previously. B) These bars are replica BSA M20 bars and they suit the look I want. C) These bars have a nice pull back that for me makes them very comfy.

Funnily enough, after I refitted the RE sump guard to my 350 classic and replaced two of the dome head bolts ,which have shallow sockets, with a couple of stainless steel dome head bolts with deeper sockets ,I happened to look at the nice chrome dome head hex head bolts on the handlebar bracket and thought 'I wouldn't like to have to replace them !

I had known for sometime that the one that did snap was going to cause grief... Over tightening and Loctite from factory on that one.  ??? :-\

3am this morning. Brain says "That handlebar set up you made may not be strong enough...." Aaarrggghhh.. Tapped 6mm holes for 2 further bolts to be added. So each bracket now as 2 high tensile bolts holding it it, One 8mm and one 6mm. Now silence brain.

Took the plate off and painted the bolt heads.
