Your mechanic (or you) has overfilled the crankcase & the engine is blowing out the excess & it will continue to blow the excess oil out until the oil level is down to where it's supposed to be.

When your engine has finished blowing oil out, it is then that you should check the oil level on the dipstick.

          Does your dipstick have hashmarks?

I'm gonna wait until you respond.

PS: If you have any luck with the Search function on this Forum, there have been thousands of words written on how to check the oil level in AVL engines.

I've had a nasty thought, but if my hunch is correct it will be an easy-ish fix.

First off, where EXACTLY is/was your breather catch can? Up near the back if the air filter somewhere, OR was it directly over the oil tank behind the timing case, with a screw top?

If it was the former, go with tooseevee's advice, but if it's the latter there's some mechanical exorcism to do! The UK importers came up with a mad breather scheme which bubbled the breather gases through the oil in the tank. Part of this has a long tube going down from the breather exit into the bottom of the oil in the tank. Crankcase pressure would actually force the oil out of the tank and up into the catch can, which would return the oil to the tank via a short wide-bore hose to the tank via a custom filler neck, leaving the remaining gases to vent.

Please can you put up a picture or a more detailed description of what's on there?

Than you.

goodlord, I wonder what committee thought that one up. And did it work? At all?

I hope African Boy does not have this engine.

Not too serious if he has, it's just a case of removing ALL of the system and fitting a factory filler neck and breather pipe union. What often happens when people get rid of this is that they overlook the long pipe going down to the bottom of the oil tank, thinking it's just a breather pipe union. This even caught Bullet Whisperer out!

AFAIK this contraption does actually work, my Electra-X/flat track project has this fitted, no problems reported by the previous owner. It will probably come off in due course.

The AVL engines do often have breather issues that are relatively easy to fix, please do post photos and more info, is it stock or modified, is your 'mechanic' actually familiar with Bullet engines?

Simple stuff is wet sumping and/or overfilling the oil tank, that is really easy to do on these and there is a procedure to follow when changing the oil that may not have been followed.
