I enjoy AvE's unique perspective on tools and all sorts of other equipment on YouTube. He's kind of an oddball fan of snazzy Japanese gear, and his latest offering to pop up in my feed (though 3 years old) is a look at a new kind of combination screwdriver-and-impact-driver from yonder called the Vessel "Impacta" at: https://youtu.be/jaRzZFLPKEY.

He doesn't offer any direct links for purchase, but it occurred to me that many of you also have older Japanese rides chock full of those JIS type screws that resemble yet are not quite Phillips Head screws. If you've ever chewed up a JIS screw (often, though not always distinguished by a little dot on its head) by taking a plain old Phillips screwdriver to it, then you'll know just what I'm talking about. Since even plain JIS screwdrivers tend to be fairly pricey anyhow and not something you generally find on most places' shelves, and regular impact drivers a bit bulky for routine work, even if you had a JIS bit, why not spare that old GoldWing's or other Japanese bike's goofy screws and have one proper tool that can do both?: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003BI8HHQ

Of course, Amazon also also has other Vessel "Impacta" types, including regular Phillips, slotted, etc., but in view of the relative rarity and cost of JIS screwdrivers, this might be a sweet spot for those who can use one that'll take it easy or HARD.

I bought a set (2 Impacta, 4 normal japanese) and they work really great. I had a philipps screw on the handlebar instrument that was really tight. The chance to destroy by using force was really great. So I used the impacta with a hammer and voila, the screw came out without any damage.

I have a set of Vessel JIS screwdrivers and love them. I use them all the time. They work a lot better than standard Craftsman Phillips screwdrivers.  I also bought one of their socket and ratchet sets, which also work great. They are my go-to tools.    Unless I am working on my Bullet of course, and then I use a hammer, flat blade screwdriver and slip-joint pliers to service the bike.

Well l bought quite a few impact drivers over the last 45 years, but l like my Ryobi takes care of small screws and has socket adapters saved my bacon a few times, l still have some from the 70s l used to use on jap bikes they all work. I also have a butterfly wrench l have had many years with adjustable torque great for bottom fork bolts.

But, ... The updated version has lost some chromed alloy steel, in favor of "elastomer", but the hex shanks look like they would be a bit easier to find.  I wonder if those are 6mm?  (aka dang close to 1/4")
