That makes it much more attractive.  It would take me more than 10 years to put 100,000 miles on my bike.  Next question is what would it do to my warranty?
Here in the US a warranty denial has to prove that your change caused the problem. If you melt a piston that couldn't be the result of a belt drive but could be blamed on changes to the intake and exhaust.

The weather eased enough for me to get a couple of good rides in yesterday and today, 50 and 75 miles.  Pleased to report that everything works extremely well.  Belt is completely silent, very smooth.  Whatever small amount of driveline snatch there was originally is now gone.  And no more cleaning gook off the rear wheel and spokes.  VERY pleased.

Well, I have already gone with the DNA air filter and Powerage silencers, so suppose if they wanted to be asses I could be screwed.

all good- I just sent them an email for the cost of the item plus postage to Australia. could be wrong but i'd say around AU$600 landed
appears I was wrong!  ;D following a lengthy discussion with the supplier -the landed price is closer to AU$750

Did you save the OEM parts?  If so, and the bike craps out...just throw on the OEM parts, to collect on the warranty...

Didn't realize there was a shaft drive conversion for our RE650!  (This is a thread about RE650).

Well no, in reality if you wanted a retro mid range bike with a shaft you would buy a V7 Guzzi.  For the 650 a belt is a good compromise.

hi folks, belt drive kit arrived this week,
price good.
shipping expensive (to uk)
delivery from courier quick (hense the cost)
import tax a added cost.
pullies are good (will paint over the machined in design)
belt is a gates item so best quality.
packageing a bit bizzare,
delivery box, then yellow display box, then a tatty box that looks like it should have had a guitar in it (its the ride on music brand thing).
look forward to fitting when it stops bieing cold and wet here in UK (cumbria)

ok, fitted the belt drive, quite easy, used a proficat laser to set alignment, looking forward to putting fod2 (my pet name for the 650 as fod1 was my 350 bullet) back on the road soon. stay safe folks.

One advantage of the belt final drive is that the belt is light weight and has almost no inertia.
If a final drive chain breaks, it often gets pulled toward the front by the front sprocket and smacks the engine case, putting a hole in it. Many vintage Interceptors/Constellations/Meteors have welded-up holes in their cases in that area, from that very thing.

very true, but i only had two chains let go on me in 40yrs, one on my kawasaki as i was trying to show off to some girls back in 1980 and the other was on my 350 bullet on my work commute 20yrs back,and that was a brittle link plate that fractured, fortunately no damage was done to either bike, in my professional capacity as a motorcycle mechanic for Yamaha the only broken chains i ever come across were on competition bikes that were getting thrashed regularly and bikes owned by people with no idea of maintenance, correct tension and regular lubrication are  essential to the life of your chain & sprockets, chains are a precision engineered item that live in a hostile environment and are usually the most often forgotten part of a bike.

Never had a chain break in almost 50 years of riding so I don't see moving to a belt because of any perceived weakness in chain drive. It is a critical part so one needs to respect/maintain it. Also not convinced belts will withstand sharp gravel stones as well as a chain.
I became friends with someone just because they rode motorcycles from no-place to no-where

past machines: BSA Lightning, HD FX1200, 75/6 BMW, 90/6, R80RT, R100RT, K75S, current machines: DR650, DL650.
