Is it possible to fit a RE 650 GT engine into the RE Conti 535 GT frame?

Anything's possible if you try hard enough. Can't imagine it's going to be a bolt in,  tho. The drive chain is on the wrong side for a start. Where you going to get the engine from?

Good Vibes - Both the 650 and the GT have frames designed by Harris. The 650 does have a double loop frame as well. I can see some frame tubes under the cases. That's a good thing.
The old Bullet frame used a lot of the engine as a stressed member of the frame. Not so good, in my book. The GT feels much better. Is there something you don't like about the 650 frame?
Like the GT, it has a relatively short wheelbase. I can understand wanting something better than the old Bullet chassis, but do you know something specific about this Harris that you don't like?
Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill,  I am very happy with my 535 Conti GT.  I just wondered if it could be done.  I used to take all my old British bikes to bits and enjoyed doing that.  I do not think that the 650 would be too big for the 535 frame but had forgotten that the drive chain has been swapped to the other side (thanks Simon).  Why would RE do that?

My bike runs like a dream without much vibration.  so no valid reason other than wouldn't it be fun to have a go.  I am pretty sure my NZ Agent could obtain a 650 engine from India if I asked him.  However, I don't have an engineering workshop so would need assistance if it was possible.  However, I see the drive chain issue as probably making the project just a pleasant memory.

Good riding to you all

Ralph, I don't think it would be impossible to remake the brake hardware for the other side of the swingarm and flip the wheel around. You'd need to know someone with machines, though. It's still in the back of my mind for when (if) my 535 single destructs. I'll look at swapping a DR650 engine in. It also has the drive on the wrong side. But I reckon it's doable.
