How do you find those? I searched Ebay and found nothing. Right now I'm so broke I can't even pay attention! The W650 and the Honda GB500 have been favorites of mine since they came out, with the Kaw being slightly ahead on my list.
So the rear pads were in contact with the rotor. They heated up and expanded as the brake fluid started to boil. Good thing it didn't lock up!
It was the shop's goof for not finding it at the 650 mile check, BUT that's a type of thing I should be inspecting before each ride.Quote
Had a similar happening with my Royal Enfield! I had replaced the standard Rear Brake rod nut with a "Rear Brake Rod Wing Nut" from CMW. Yes it is handy for quick adjustments, BUT... The facility where I work held a picnic. As usual there was often a crowd of "sightseers gathered around the "Antique Motorcycle". Evidently some cleaver Peckerwood decided that my brake was loose, and decided to keep me safe by horsing the Wing nut tight. In the first eight miles I noticed that the bike was a might sluggish. After twenty miles I noticed that I couldn't pull away from the traffic light. I pushed the bike into a nearby parking lot and found the rear wheel was completely locked up and the hub was boiling hot.
The moral: BEWARE of the oglers and sightseers! many are Gremlins in disguise 8)
Also, get rid of those wing nuts. (thank God I haven't bought the wing nut for the oil filter. ::)
rode the 56 matchless to the hospital this morning for routeen blood test because the enfield is sitting flattired waiting for the new k81 (out of stock) i suppose i could have taken the 2000 ensield but i like to renew the gas in sitting in the carb on all the bikes.
see you there mike .bring it along. but i'll most likely have the k81 on the bike to get there, unless i have to take the triumph.
no support vehicle. just a little brass bell.
Nice DRZ, Big Don. I've seriously considered the Super Moto version of it. I think it would be the perfect commuting bike for the city. I think they are amazing bang for the buck and seem like blasts to ride.
I too have a Triumph T100, an '09 and I'm enjoying it very much. Someone looking for a W650? I just happen to have one, see: http://wichita.craigslist.org/mcy/2568809486.html
I rode my Triumph T100 a little didn't do anything to it.
I have had it for a couple of months I like it. I know there are faster, smoother, cheaper bikes out there but I am going thru my British bike phase in life right now. I just wanted a little more power for those times when the wifey wants to ride. I still enjoy the Enfield and plan to keep them both. And yes willw the W650 is a nice bike but they are a little hard to find.
Did get to go up in a non RE airplane the other day. A friend who has a Grumman Traveller wanted me to check a guy out in it.. So I as glad to accomodate him. Just couldn't turn that one down.

After last week's aborted "brake"-down, I got it done right today with a 175 mile ride on the Guzzi Breva towards Mt. Rainer, after getting "lost" in Puyallup for a bit. That mountain really looms large long before you get close.
The 744cc twin ran really sweet and got 55mpg for the tank.
The Breva is great for long distance day rides. This ride on the Enfield would have been mostly great except for the few freeway stretches heading uphill. But the Breva has a better riding position and more comfy stock seat. I would have been sore on the Bullet.
Tomorrow it is the Bullet's turn...
Looks like Eatonville in the pic.Nope, it was near Orting. A better day for riding would be hard to find.
Prof, when you find yourself in Tacoma or south of it, feel free to give a shout.
The AVG in China was known as the Flying Tigers, a cat, not a Tiger Shark, a fish, that used the mouth as it's emblem along with a "Flying Tiger" on the side of the fuselage. P-40's official names were Hawks, Warhawks, Tomahawks, and Kittyhawks. There were mentions of a shark mouth paint job, but there was never any official or unofficial name or model of the P-40 as a Tiger Shark.

Great hack, BTW!!!
I trade my C5 plus $$ for a 2012 Bonneville. Don't know what I'll do with 3 times the power, smoother ride, 6 year TRANSFERABLE warranty. I still like nostalgic rides, but it must be a reliable motorcycle first. Later.

6 year transferable?!?
Mine (2011) came with a 2 year unlimited mileage factory warranty.
Option to add 4 years for more $
sounds too good to be true.Heh, you might be right about that! ;)
Stopped for breakfast at Dennys and backed into a spot. All was fine until after the meal as I was waiting outside on the bench for my wife to come out of the restaurant. Seems a blue hair did not think my bike was in the spot and started to whip right in. I got up and started to wave my arms and got them to stop within a foot of my bike. Oh damn, I share the road with these folks..
Picked up my new long distance machine, a 2012 Concours 14 last Sat.Wow, the Concours is DEFINITELY a great highway hauler! Were you happy or sad to see the Ural go?
And sold my 2010 Ural sT today.

1. how bout posting some pics...
2. Are you still married??
...The comparision between it and the ural/enfield is like "where do u start"...Is the concurs a more standard riding position?
And here's one for the Professor.
Very nice.
Yeah, the Connie would have to have the grip warmer built in. You have one for the seat as well? That would be nice to have on chilly days.
very very nice.great long distance bike i bet we'll see it at steelville .will you still take an enfield to lanesborough?
Every once and a while I get to thinking that although I have had no real problems with my Royal Enfield G5, if it ever does develop some major problem I'll be without a bike to ride until it's fixed.
That would be a real bummer!
With this in mind, I rode the RE up to the Triumph dealer today to look over the new Triumphs.
I was surprised that the cost of the Bonneville was only $2100 more than the base price for my G5 Deluxe.
I came to the conclusion that the Bonneville was just about what I would want to buy after noting that the next higher priced version was the Bonneville with a two tone paint job on the fuel tank and the addition of a tachometer.
For reasons that escape me, those two features added $1000 to the price tag.
The T100 was even higher priced than that. :(
The sales guy suggested that I take a test ride on one of their Bonneville's so I thought "why not?". It turned out to be the solid gold version and I think if I get one, that's the color I would go for.
I only put about 30 miles on it but that included riding on one of our freeways and I found that running it up to 80 mph was a no brainer.
Just a little twist of the throttle and a click thru the gears and before I knew it I was doing 85 mph. :)
I must say it certainly has a LOT more power and is much smoother than my RE.
The old "push on the butt" even in 5th gear with just a twist of the wrist was just like my old BMW K bike would do.
No vibration at any speed either.
This model weighs around 500 pounds and the extra 100 pounds of weight over my Royal Enfield does reduce the ease of making quick changes in direction if I'm comparing it to my RE. It felt a bit sluggish although it was easy to handle.
This sounds a bit conflicting but you guys who have ridden one will know what I mean.
I even got a , "Nice Triumph!" from a guy in a pickup truck while I was getting on it at a local store.
As I was riding my G5 home I got to thinking about the Triumph and my RE.
The Triumph is a great bike and I may even go ahead and buy one but it doesn't seem to have the "character" of the G5.
If I do get a Bonnie, the RE will remain a part of my collection. That's for sure. :)
I mentioned this to the salesman and he said there were a lot of aftermarket silencers available and their mechanics could remap the computer for just about anything including a straight pipe.
...+1
... It really irritates me when guys come on this forum just to complain about their bikes or brag about how great their "other bike" is. ;)
Yeah. Can't really keep up with the bigger bikes on the Patriot Guard missions,so decided to get out the ole' Virago 920 and get 'er going.Gave it to my son 8 0r so yrs ago and it has not moved since....
Goofy looking thing, but it is a nice ride. And, it will cruise at whatever.
I have always wanted a Guzzi.Partial to the 60's styling but like all of 'em.They have the engine turned the right way.Seems so obvious. The V7 Classic is a nod in the direction of the 60's styling. The design is timeless. I test rode one before settling on the Breva with its more comfortable seating and riding position.
I love the V7. I think it is one of the best "new" bikes out there, as far as design goes. really slick. I've heard the Bonnie is a better ride with a little more power, but I'm quite partial to that V7 styling. I think it is very fairly priced too.It IS a good fit for me. It's not much heavier than the C5. The dealer is 4 miles away (a plus for my not-wanting-to-do-much-wrenching attitude) and sells more MG than anyone in the states. I was cautioned by Kevin M to not be too much a David-Downer about my C5 experience (some members wrote to him about it), so I'll just say that I really, really, really wanted to ride and love the RE, but it was not to be. That's all I have to say about that.
...
Prof - I love reading about how much fun you are having on that Guzzi! Sound like that bike was good fit for you.
The low beam light does not work which is an easy swap but the horn won't sound. I see a little spark when I press the button but no sound. I'll have to dig in.
Are you aware that most horns have a screw to adjust them?
No worries mate. Most of us like just about everything with wheels and engine.
There are very few among us who are positioned to own and ride the variety of motorbikes we would like to and posts like yours let us enjoy other bikes vicariously.
wow you need to experience more cycles!Over 40 years of riding has given me many experiences on many motorcycles. Sizes from 90cc (Honda CL90) to 1340cc (Electra-Glide) to 984cc (Buell XB9S Lightning), and three thumpers (SR500, Blast, Bullet).
after a recent move from central Illinois to the western slopes of Colorado we are enjoying the ride with more than cornfields to look at. Yesterday we ventured out to find a high dessert plateau.Wow that ride is huge! What is it?

Took my newly accquired Duc 750ssie to the Expressway and went Boooooooooooooo, Booooooooooooooooooo, Booooooooooooooooooooooooo. My god, what a bike.

SuzieQ Boulevard.... picked it up last fall for a song. Glad I did at this point cause the distances out here are farther and the inclines are steeper.Hey , you put your time in, nothing to feel guilty about. Good luck, cyrus
This is the only thread that I've said much cause I kinda feel guilty about "moving on" .
my latest adventure, an olde man's trike

All these stories I read about cross-country trips give me wanderlust.Be adventurous, take the Enfield! One thing in life the Bullet will give you is patience!

I agree, take the bullet. People ride them around the world and back.
Finally located and installed proper looking fork gaiters for the Husky.
I'm way out of shape, so this is great for me.
I went down to Virginia on Sunday and picked up my new summer ride. 17 hours round trip. Left at 4 am from Ohio and got home at around 9 Sunday night. I think it was well worth the trip :D
I went out into the garage and looked at the GB500. Damn, I need to put that back together! I need something to ride!

I'm gonna cafe a cx500.Thing was free,purchase-wise.Nobody likes these,so they are probly purty good.Understand they run forever, that'd be ok.
The metallic purple paint coupled with the orange and red penstriping decals looked bad. :)
Picked up a 1994 K75S for a song. It's smooth and fast. Totally different than the Enfield.I rode a K75 several years ago through some of our local twisties in the Bouquet Cyn neighborhood. It wasn't bad, A little slow steering, but probably my favorite BMW that I've ridden. Nothing to make me want to rush out and buy, though. Not "exclusively" enough, I guess. I kinda lean toward the stuff that everyone doesn't have. Like Yamaha Visions, 750 Triples and Fazers.

IMO, those crotch rockets are pure craziness. I'm totally against the idea of some governmental agency banning them or putting a lid on max acceleration or horsepower but I do wonder about selling these to kids.
Hey, how does that Bonnie sound with the Arrow exhausts? The Scrambler I heard with a 2 into 1 Arrow sounded absolutely fantastic.

That mana looks like a sweet bike! I saw that ad on cl before you posted it and I thought it was a good deal. I like to borrow my girlfriends twist and go scooter and I love how you just coast into a turn and then hammer the throttle through the curve without worrying about what gear you're in. I'll bet that aprilia is a blast!
Gosh, I get cramps now!
A common cause of cramps is being dehydrated. Take water with you on a ride and drink it!I understand that, I was a Marine. This is the kind when you lift your leg to first get on and your hip says "Please don't lift that high".

Quick question..... So, being that I have a Enfield Indian, can't I technically post in this category too? I do technically own a Indian... ScottieI vote no. You'll upset all the H-Ds and Yamazukis. Invariable, when parked next to an Enfield or Indian, they puke and won't run.
Couldn't be the stuff under the shirt could it?

Rode to the Mt Evans summit today, and got snowed on when I got to the top. It was 87F in Denver when I set out at 11am. It was a really good time. On the way back down, I rode with a father and son on a pair of new Yamaha 250 supermotos. We were getting pelted with sleet and snow on the way down from the summit, but we still rode aggressively and had a blast.
And FYI, Mt Evans is the Highest paved rode in the United States. So Bare, you cannot POSSIBLY 1 up me on this one. It's physically impossible!!! ;)

Some a-hole truck driver tried to drown me with a drink he tossed out the window as I was splitting lanes beside him
I looked at the Honda 250 and Kawasaki 300 after I crashed the Bullet. The Kawasaki fit me better than the Honda, but I just couldn't get myself to buy another Oriental bike. Just did'nt ant another of those soulless beasts! Don't get me wrong, they are great bikes, but rarely inspire passion. The Guzzi barely does!

But, it's still too clean!
Changed the gearbox oil on my 2004 Bullet 65. Also changed the breather system to Ace's arrangement. Only to discover my bike might have blow-by. Time to take the top end a part.
Took my bike for a nice long ride today. Which was nice.
Yeah, I had a Mustang pulling that crap on me going down Imperial Highway. When we got down to a3 0r 4 mile section of "freeway" I had to show him a little of what a Goose can do. He had a V8 in the Mustang and I was really afraid he'd blow my doors off. But I rolled on just enough to beat him out of the hole and heard him really gunning it, so I rolled an a little more, then nailed it. I didn't have any more problems at the next light! The Goose must be somewhat quicker than I give it credit for! Thanks for asking.
Hey Gary, how's the boat treating you?

Love that CB750, looks like it's one of Steve Carpenters, or at least his parts ?... I believe he is out there in Southern California ?
I sold my GB500
It's got a big dent in the gas tank and a few scrapes on it and it has over 15,000 miles on it but last time I looked it was still for sale. ;D
Hey D the D, can we get some info/pics of that Sportster?
No character or soul. Japanese bikes don't have any. Very few of them anyway. The GB500 had some, but don't try to compare them with an English thumper, they don't thump!

Now, how do you like the Dart flyscreen? They do a nice job on most bikes in smoothing out the airflow to make for a more pleasurable longer ride.

Looked at it. Wanted to fix something, but it doesn't need anything. Enfield withdrawal is tough, especially at night.

Finally got my '56 IMZ M-72 sidevalve running again Thanksgiving weekend, after replacing a twisted crank. This bike makes my iron barrel seem like a Ducati.
The 2x4 side-stand is my own invention. Available for purchase for your own rides, at a reasonable price.
Aftermarket 'adjustment' kit. 9.95. Order now and get a free binding system( twine)
How much to ship one of them fancy side-stand to Maryland? Can you make it adjustable? :o
Already in Maryland, just north of Baltimore. If I leave the bike out too long, it will disappear, and you can just pick up the side-stand free!
New tail/brake light/plate bracket & repositioned blinkers on my '08 Classic.

For the first time in two months I got the Honda CBR250R "lil thumper" out for a ride.

Steve and I got together this morning for a little putt down to the avocado fields, just messing around. We went down via Santiago Cyn, Live Oak and Ortega Hwy. spent most of the day following traffic on those roads! I took him down to explore the place, but I suspect he didn't have a clue where he was as there are a lot of roads down there. but then all he had to do as follow me and wonder if I was lost or not. I don't get lost down there, but there are times I don't know exactly where I am, but I know the way out! It was a great day though, about 60owhen we started and finally ended up in the 80s.Had a great time riding with Bare, always do, yes I had know idea where we were in the Avacodo fields, but I knew Bare wouldn't get us lost.
The Goose and T100 both performed as expected and made a great day of it all. I did about 200 miles while Steve had to add another 40-50 as he lives farther away.
...some scumbag stole my cat face taillight in the restaurant parking lot!
GoPro note: I tried the "narrow setting" which is just a normal camera view. It didn't work on the chest mount. Just a few hours of my gas cap and speedo. I'll have to try it on the helmet or possibly a handlebar mount. Here's an iphone panoramic shot of the valley below Courser. The house behind me was so picture perfect, it could have been in the Shire.
This weekend I dropped the motor out of my Kawasaki ZG1200 Voyager. I bought the bike a few years back and had been listening to a rattling noise coming from the engine since I bought it. Well after many hours on the AVA forum asking questions about this noise and checking this and that and then spending another few hours consulting the forum Voyager guru over the phone the consensus of the cause of the rattle was a broken starter chain tensioner. So yanked the motor, split the case with fingers crossed and low and behold the tensioner truly had taken a dump. A small actuator spring was sticking out the top of the tensioner. But wait one minute, not so fast, a couple minutes of fiddle f*ckin with the tensioner and it works perfect. So I asked myself, "Self should I reuse this old tensioner that works perfectly now that I have fiddle f*cked it back together and save $100 or should I pop for a brand new one?" Well the $100 was quickly spent after just one thought of contemplating another case splitting weekend. So 3 days and $220 later my problem will be fixed for good. Savings for doing this myself, about $1500+. Anyway there aren't many mechanics out there that will touch a Voyager and few Kawasaki shops that have many mechanics that have ever touched one either. I can always count on myself to do the work and to do it correctly, not taking shortcuts to save a few bucks. OK alright already, I did take one shortcut. Made a tool to remove the flywheel because I'm to cheap to buy a impact wrench. Well my birthday is coming up soon so I will have something on the list for my wife to buy. She actually gave me some money for Christmas to do this repair so I guess I will have to consider keeping her around for a while.
Check the cam chain tensioner on that Voyager too. My Vulcan 750 has 2 cam chain tensioners, and both had started to fail by 15,000 miles. I replaced them with new oem parts, which only lasted 10,000 miles. Then I replaced them with aftermarket manual tensioners, the bike now has 89,000 miles on it, no more problems. Kawasaki made that bike for 22 years, and never did fix the problem, so a lot of engines failed due to broken cam chains.
I didn't feel the quakes down in North County. Or maybe I'm just too used to the subway being underfoot back East.
A bunch of Guzzisti had a great ride yesterday up the Crest, Angeles Forest, back down Lower Big Tujunga, across Little Tujunga, connected with Bouquet Cyn and Spunky Cyn and ended up at the Rock Inn. Never have seen so many bikes there. It was an incredible mob. Pretty much put the usual crowd at the Rock Store to shame. But mostly Hardleys. They were out front trying to see who could out noise who! Took us over an hour to get served lunch, (we were warned!), we came back down Spunky and Bouguet then crossed on Soledad and Aliso to Angeles Forest and down Angeles Crest. We were avoiding the higher altitudes and it worked well. The weather was perfect, the roads were generally in great shape, a few spots of dirt on the road, but not bad.
Since I suggested the route, I got stuck leading most of it. But it was a great ride even though I had to work my butt off to keep anyone from getting bored!

I just got back from a 300 mile loop over Red Mountain on the Million Dollar highway to Durango, then to Dolores, then back North over Lizard Head pass to Telluride then home. The goal of the trip was to visit the location where the Firework Stand scene in the movie "JOE DIRT" was filmed.
I can cross that off my bucket list- Mike
Went for a spin on my Suzuki bobber
Thanks, boggy. It's nice of you to say so. I like it a lot, too. The patina is staying, I like the grubbiness and protective layer of filth more than overpolished show finish on a bike like this. These bikes can be had for beer money in the states (even brand new), but are rarer than rocking horse shit in australia. They were only available for one year here ('86), took me two years to find the donor for this project. The upside is, no-one else has one, and hardly anyone even knows what it is 8)
oh gee i just bought another bike. a 1980 250 yamaha thumper
Saturday, I rode up to Lake Isabella with the "Three Bulleteers" sans the Bullets. I on the Guzzi, Steve on his BMW and Jack on his Street Triple. It was a nice ride, but not too exciting as the roads were generally pretty straight. We were on the 395 most of the way. It was a good test ride to see if I'd eradicated all the Gremlins that I had harassing for the last month or so. seems the big one was slightly loose manifold clamp causing an occasional air leak on the right cylinder. Tightened it up and all is as it should be! So it was a good ride and enjoyable as the weather was great. It was 414 miles for me. I went to the Father's Day party at Century Cycle in San Pedro Sunday after watching the Moto GP race and seeing Rossi ending up second behind Marquez after a great race with Pedroza and Lorenzo duking it out into the last lap. Rossi is now 2nd in the standings.I had to work in the morning. Got to Century in the afternoon after watching MotoGP! All the food was gone but the band played on. Tim has that life sized mural of Tom Sykes on his wall and didn't even know who he was until I told him. In a way Tim is responsible for me being back on a Royal Enfield. He tried for months to sell my Stella but when that failed I traded it in at Route 66. Is there another RE shop in the area? I need an oil filter and a destination in the morning.
The turnout was quite good at the Party with some interesting stuff there. I didn't stick around for lunch, but did chat with several old friends. The crowd has certainly in the last few years. It used to be a Brit bike show, but the Brit stuff is getting more and more rare and new machines are replacing them. Harley's are getting more numerous there, too.
I did tack on another 80 miles and went over 14,500 mile on the Guzzi.
Gotta get down to the RE shop this week and try out a Continental GT.

I was out the door by the time you wrote this but thanks anyway. I rode out to Douglas. Nice shop! I got the filter and drooled on several bikes. Then they let me ride a GT! Amazing the difference 35cc makes. I ran it up to 130! The big numbers on the speedo are KPH. It was smooth and powerful. The riding position is as extreme as my old 900SS Ducati.
Bare, where is the closest RE dealer to you?
Getting tired of the CBR250R's excessive high frequency vibrations and the uncomfortable ride after more than 50 miles, I purchased an '07 Moto Guzzi Breva 750, with only 1,300 miles, for less than $4k. It is a very comfortable and powerful (for me) motorcycle. Today's 65 mile ride was a pleasure. The 'lil' thumper is probably up for sale, for about what this Guzzi cost. It is nice not to have my hands going tingly and numb after long rides. Before you dump the Honda you should have it checked out. I rode one from San Francisco to Austin, TX and back in April. My hands have been put to sleep by BMWs and Ducatis but not the Honda CBR250r. It is such a kick in the corners!

It is such a kick in the corners! The hand-numbing is new to me. The Honda is a nice motorcycle but does not resonate well with me at higher rpm's. At 65mph it shows 7,000rpm's. Even with counter-balancer, that's a lot of tingling. The Guzzi, on the other hand, at 65mph, is around 4k rpm's.

Guzzohm, Welcome (back?) to the Guzzi world. It's a good place to be!I once owned a Moto Guzzi Nevada 750. The cruiser riding position was not good for long rides.

We will so that! Are you doing the Extinguished Gentlemens' Ride?No I wont be doing that ride, the next club ride for me will be the BSA Mount Baldy ride on Oct 5th.

Took a very nice 116 mile tour from Laguna Hills to the main divide off Ortega south through Cleveland National Forest to Tejena ranger station and through the new homes built In the area since I was last there. Road is all paved now but poorly maintained. Returned through Elsinore. Stopped at the local watering hole "Hells Kitchen" and had some fun with the other riders. They kept asking what was that square black box hanging down the fork leg. ( California charcoal filter required here ) I had some fun with them and very seriously told them that it was the Nitrous Oxide box and it give me enough horsepower to pass almost anything on the road. Great day and love the C5........
I took the Guzzi over to Malibu Friday for a flash, then went over to the Rock Store for lunch and BS sessions, then up the snake and down Latigo, then home for a 160 mile trek and Sunday went to the BSA Club Christmas party via Angeles Crest/Forest to Palmdale, 170 miles. The weather was nice on both rides! Great weekend. I don't think any one came to the party actually rode a Beezer. Don Madden was there on his RE.Very cool day for you. Its been raining here for a week... snow tonight :'(

I'd been struggling with high running temps on my 2002 KS iron barrel after a top end upgrade to an alloy barrel, new piston & head rebuild. I decided to just set it up & ride my C5 till a solution came to mind for my overheating issue, but since it seemed to have a lot more acceleration power with the choke ON,(though it didn't idle well) thought I'd jet UP the carb...again. From 117.5 to 120 to 130 now to a 150...& whadyaknow! I got a 173 deg. runnin temp with enough power to spare. I wouldn't have thought it would've taken that much jet size to run right, liv-n-lern I guess. Maybe this info will help someone down the road, R.TilleryIf you need a 150 main jet in a Mikarb, you have an air leak somewhere, or something is wrong with the carb, or an exhaust leak. 130 is almost always the most necessary, even at sea level. If you really need that jet, I would be looking for what's wrong.
rode around NYC on my SYM Symba underbones in the aftermath of a week of heavy snow...
Here's what I did: ride my scooter over to visit with this guy: http://instagram.com/p/zON2wjJrv1/

rode my new 2015 indian cream and green vintage chief home from the dealer about 95 miles.Wow another Indian owner on the forum, I have a 2015 Chieftain, Springfield blue/ Ivory. My girlfriend and I rode up to Santa Maria from Glendora,Ca last weekend. 430 mile round trip. We got rained on just out of Santa Barbara up to Santa Maria, we put on our rain suits and stayed dry. Congrats on the new Indian Bob.
on a wing....Don't know yet. But I have plans to find out!
how much beer can you haul in the chair??
It's great to hear from you. bobI have been remiss in keeping up with friends.
I brought home a new leftover 2012 chrome/black C5 yesterday, if that counts?
Paul, I forgot how international this forum is!
A real shame you haven’t got the same range of bikes to choose from as other locations.
Is shipping a bike from the States an option or is it too costly?
My knowledge of geography and current affairs is sketchy at best.

It's Wifey's bike, She is a little short of leg, so I changed the rear shocks and I modified them further by removing the assister springs and making the alloy spring seats to take up the free play. It goes well enough for a 250 and rides much like her old Sportster, just a bit lighter feeling. Not intendedto be a dig at Harley, but definite praise for Sinnis. It would be most interesting to get the occasional update on this bike, quality, durability, and reliability as the miles pile on. :)

Also, my boss ratted me out about the dirt bike being mine today at our Police Pancake Breakfast this morning. And amazing, she didn't even say anything to me about it. She probably put 2 and 2 together and said to herself "you irresponsible child." ;D
+1, Scotty! The bike, the job, and the wife not killing you? Who could ask for anything more? ;D
Will probably be moving to Harlingen, Texas next August and would love to go ride South Padre Island.
Texas!?! Didn't you just score a dream job? A man's gotta do, I guess. Will that be in 2018? And... are there any hills there?
Today I put a digital voltmeter in the dash of my old Pantah. about $4 from ebay. Reads about .3v different to my digital multimeter so that's good enough. I've been having some battery issues lately. Seems like the RR is not playing nicely with the lithium battery. So it'll be good to be able to keep an eye on it. I think I'll be forking out for a AGM battery soon though. Went for a ride through the hills on it today with a couple of friends on a KTM RC390 and Kwaka 650 Ninja. Good to see the old bus can still dominate the new guys :)
I do love my job, but I am making little money doing it, and cost of living in Colorado is ridiculous. One of the local news stations did a study/article a couple weeks back, and right now 2 adults have to be each making $18/hr to live comfortably in the Denver area. My wife and I aren't even close to that.
We pay $1400/month for a 960 sqft 2 bed 2 bath apartment that is constantly getting water damage. (Just finished going thru our 9th incident in 3 years). That same apartment layout is currently going for $1550/month for new move ins. We were looking at houses over the weekend and 2 bed 2 bath HOUSES are going for $80-90K with estimated mortgages of less than $500/month. We even found a 2,100 sqft 4 bed 3 bath on .73 acres for $130K. Also, my mom and step-dad are getting ready to sell the house in Wisconsin and will be living in Harlingen permanently soon, so will be nice to be close to them. Plus all the produce is local and fresh and extremely cheap, same with beef. For instance, my mom recently bought a 25 pound bag of giant onions for $15. Onions are about $2 a pound here and are never fresh. And let's not forget ocean fishing any day of the week!
So, yes, we will be moving somewhere much more affordable to live. But, I am sticking out at the current motorcycle shop to continue growing my knowledge and experience, and will try to find work in Texas at another motorcycle shop or dealer.
It also explains why so many folks from CA "discover" a much cheaper cost of living in other states.
Great for them. Bad for the other states' residents.
Used to be you could get a nice 1 acre lot with a decent mobile home in western Montana for less than $15,000.
The Real Estate agents would seriously jack up the price and very quickly noted the the CA residents made no attempt to negotiate, so soon a similar lot/home would sell for $50,000 or more.
In all fairness, the CA residents were seeing a great deal, but just didn't think about what their "great deal" was doing to the local property values. ::)
sweet! my old pantah has just become eligible for historic registration, too. $90 a year instead of almost $500. 8)
Boy, you REAlly get slammed for taxes and registrations, don't you? :o :o :o :o :o ???(http://)yep.
Hahaha! I've been looking at big bore, big cams, big throttle body... Trying not to get carried away! :o
Right now, If I were to take the next step I think it would be cams but they are expensive and I should be pretty happy with what I already have after Friday night dyno. 8) If it weren't for the cost... ::)

Daughter's boyfriend took the new motard and we bashed that up and down the hill a few times too. Too much fun. I'm not much of a GoPro hero but one of my mates wanted to stick his to my scooter for a run down the hill.
Had the rusty and pitted engine guards powder-coated in a krinkel black and went for a 75 mile ride -- This K is a wonder and the smoothest I have ever ridden. Cruise at 80 all day long on the freeways and carves the corners in the twisties with aplomb. However for pure pleasure the Enfield is still #1--
Brought my 1974 Suzuki RL-250 back to life after a 40 year + sleep. Hope to do a little vintage trials riding this year with AHRMA. Hope I remember how after all these years!
Cheers,
Bill
Regarding my vs 800 --Thanks for the input guys -- Going on Craigs list right away. At my age I don't need the aggravation. As for the Yamaha's which are the best for low riding and long life. V Stars? 650's of 1100's? -- Also my beloved BMW K 75 is for sale --Too heavy for me. Thank's Scotty
Finalized a deal on a 2018 T-100, 14miles, 2-tone Blue/White. I feel I got it for a very fair price (NADA book for my zip code).
Long story short the previous owner (80+yrs old) doesn't even remember buying the thing after a GREAT night at the tables in Vegas, and already has a Can Am Spider. So-o-o his loss, my gain. 8) Now the missus and I can CRUISE the hack to Montana and back to Albuquerque virtually worry free. ;D
Turned a pair of threaded handle bar inserts on the lathe. Someone should sell these things for us bar end mirror folks.
Hope that you had the proper filter wrench without which can be a real pain.Got one to fit at the auto parts store. A strap wrench would not be usable up in that space.
Painted the frame and bits of the Plastic Maggot cafe project.
Looking great so far! Nice little stand you have, too! Looks adaptable to several different frames.
This morning ordered up a couple of large trunk bags for the hack. One for the Bonnie, and one for the Cozy. Plenty of room for the long trips, and has expandable zippered sides so the tent will fit nicely! And will go well with the Saddlemen bags I already have. ;D

Hell, your one of our few AVL experts around here.
And, your the only one I know of around here that really knows how to clean the coffee pot.
;D ;D 8)
Wish I needed a couple of those...

I though those motors were supposed to run til the end of time? Good catch, lucky save.

Everything needs maintenance once in a while :) :)
Sounds like a smart upgrade.
I have big custom plans for her and am keeping her around for awhile....
Your boss?? :o 8) ;D ;D
Got my daughters "nearly vintage" 03 Ducati 620 Monster back from the local shop (used to be the dealer). Wouldn't start - fuel issue. Fuel pump was fine but the 15 year old plastic mesh filter screen had deteriorated as had the "rubber" hoses inside the tank. Who knew they used "rubber" hoses inside the tank? Have used fuel treatment from new and methanol free gas since it became available here in Waco a couple years ago so no rust in tank.

What's the recipe for the citric acid blend, Otto?
Funny, this last weekend I too was replacing the fuel lines inside my tank. No issues with rust, in fact my tank looked spotless. But I just turned 53K miles and the service schedule calls for replacement of the fuel filter and lines at 50K miles. It's about $200 in parts to go OEM, but I went Drag Specialties and only spent about $55 with my employee discount, retail would have been about $70-$75. Only difference was the Drag check valve line was about 3-4 inches shorter than stock. Not a big issue and still got it to work fine.
Was still chasing a misfire that was progressively getting worse, so also cleaned the crank position sensor while I was in there. Actually replaced the temp sensor the previous weekend.
Then as I was buttoning her up and about to put the seat back on I checked the battery terminals...... They were both loose! DOH!!! >:( For the last 8 years I've been working in the automotive and power sports industries and constantly preaching to check the battery terminals. "How about you practice what you preach, Scottie!?" ;D
Anyway, the bike has been running fantastic all week. BUT, the temps are dropping into the 40's and 50's so now she's getting thirsty and has a slight hesitation off of idle. So, going to go into the map and add 3 clicks of fuel at 5% throttle and 1 click across the board, and maybe 2 clicks at 100% throttle. Just about ready for an oil change too, and will probably do the primary fluid with it, and go in and replace the primary chain tensioner shoe. Also thinking of changing the battery terminal bolts to 8mm head flange bolts so I can actually get a ratchet wrench on them, and a drop of Loctite so they don't come loose again.
Boy, nobody in a nursing home could ever find better treatment than you are giving this harley. I'm proudaya 8) Maybe some day you'll actually BE on a vintage and feel as good as I..... (that's the wrong story for here).
Remember what Willy said: If you're lucky you get one good dog, one good truck and one good woman. I say there will be one, One, really good bike that you'll wish you had back to your grave.
Went on this year's Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. Well, I didn't actually go on the ride. I broke my collarbone at the track yesterday so no riding for me. But I was there for the departure and after party and that was fun. Still got dressed up. A couple of mates took my old Ducati and my TRX850 cafe racer and the offspring's partner was there on his cx500 cafe racer. Great day out.
The Bonneville weight seemed kind of heavy so I googled it and got an article fromm 2005 Motorcyclist.com which said "dry weight 451 pounds", then my google connection went down... :(
Do you have saddle bags or other accessories, + gas, oil, tire sealant, dirt that would account for the difference?
Just curious.... ::)
I have a friend with a KTM 690 Duke. He tells me that servicing the Duke is involved and expensive. He really moans about the cost of the oil required for the bike. The oil is formulated in Switzerland, fully synthetic (naturally) and sells for around $22 USD a liter. :o But apparently it is really fun to ride when it is not being serviced or repaired. ::)Yes. Another friend has a 990 SM which we rebuilt the top end on not long ago. Because an oring in the cylinder started leaking. PITA. He said the same thing about the oil. It has to be one specific type or it can't get through a metering jet to cool the alternator or some crap. What a joke. But, like you said. Hilarious fun when it works. Be a cold day in hell I bought a KTM.
I would take the GT535 over a 390 KTM anytime. With little moding it beats the crap out of it too.Same here. But I don't think so. It's fast.
Just checked the tech specs for the KTM, with twice the horsepower of a Bullet and carrying a lot less weight something was definitely amiss somewhere :o
Today my [non Enfield] Watercooled T120 Bonneville is going in for a service.
And the postie bike (c90 cub to you guys) is stylin'. 8)Dang it! I want one.
A friend of mine gave me a major tip on a 2004 EX250 Ninja I'm setting up. Next time I pull the carbs, it's going to be mucho mas easier!

Check out all the shenanigans you have to go through if you don't do this mod!

On my other 2004, a 65 ES Bullet, I could practically just pull off the Mikuni TM32 ACE helped me get on there and set up.
Cheers,
Bill
It seems that with each passing year gravity gets stronger, which makes getting up from a creeper more of a challenge.
"It seems that with each passing year gravity gets stronger, which makes getting up from a creeper more of a challenge."
I fully agree that statement, the gravity is increasing in strength and I'm very young, just celebrated my 34th birthday in January...... OK well it was the 40th anniversary of my 34th birthday.

Maybe there's a supermoto group somewhere near you. They use Kart tracks and those things are everywhere. That's who I usually ride with. It's fun, and less need for a big power bike.
Small bikes are both cheaper and I think it can be more fun to go fast on a small bike than on a big bike...PLUS you end up in less trouble when things go wrong anyway.
...dog knows I'm capable of enjoying it alone. ;)
It's her dog, and it's scared stiff of my bikes... ;)
Got my dr250 supermoto build with gs500 wheels and brakes done.
That's a cool little supermoto you built there! Very cool idea to source the GS wheels.
WEEELLLLL HEELLLLOOOO EVERYONE!!!!!!! :D
So. I've always talked shit about Harleys. But, I decided to give them a go and bought that 2001 Road King custom. I came to the conclusion that it is a decent touring bike. It really do a good job on my 2250 mile trip back in June. But, overall impression, it's just driving a 2 wheel tractor with a bunch of cargo storage. If you want to go far and haul some sh*t, it will get the job done. But, trying to whip that thing around in rush hour traffic was the equivalent to bringing a Clydesdale to a steeple chase race. Basically coming to the conclusion they actually are big piles of crap, and was pretty over it.
Here's pic of what it looks like now.

So, I've always had the philosophy to... always ride responsibly in the eye of the public.
Here is a pic of the repair. Slight run in the top. But all in all not bad.
Mmm-hmm. So you say:

Bummer about the spill - but sounds like nothing too serious The repair looks good, I doubt anyone who wasn't looking for it would notice! I might even have left it - battle scars are cool... 8)
she's temporarily unemployed like so many others.
Celebrated completing the rebuild of my old MZ ETZ 300, needed a frame swap, by taking it for a 15 mile shakedown along the edge of the Cambrian Mountains. To my surprise nothing fell off, though low speed running could have been smoother. Amazingly light, old school two stroke singles. Light weight really helps and the left hand kickstart means I still can - gammy right hip otherwise preventing play. It doesn't even kick back! Stand on its left and use the left foot to start it, second kick, every time.8) 8) 8)
Bought myself an old HARLEY FLHRC1580 recently, had to put the best true dual exhaust for harley (https://allforharley.com/true-dual-exhaust-for-harley/) on it since it was from another bike, changed the paint, cleaned it, rode 50 miles on my state yesterday, goes great.
Just got in from a 3 day, 1000km trip to the south east of the state for an interstate bike group meetup event. It rained off and on for most of the weekend so the majority of my trip was in some kind of rain. So glad I bought some new wet weather gear before the trip, it kept me warm and dry through some pretty torrential rain.
My old Pantah ran like a clock and didn't skip a beat even through the worst of it, to the surprise of a few of the other riders. Unlike the new BMW R1200GS that chucked a hissy fit and went into limp mode when it got rained on. Seemed to come good after sitting to dry out for a day but it doesn't seem very adventurous of it.....
Another Ducati Owners/Historic Motorcycle Racing Register track day. ...Envious!!!
Some nice bikes, yours included! Thanks :)
Envious!!!
Thanks for the photos. The pic of white framed Ducati really shows how simple it should be, huh.
Oooh, that Yamaha (34)... that's ticking lots of boxes 8)Same here.
