I finally took my B5 out of storage and even managed to kick-start her into lifewith my still mending leg. The front brake was sticking on so I spent the afternoon stripping the calliper down, cleaning the pins and slides before reassembly. The pistons have no corrosion on them at all which is a surprise considering I rode through salt encrusted roads during winter for a couple of years. I did find that the holes the pad retaining pins go through were different diameters no wonder it was difficult to remove one of them. I have found this issue before on some Japanese machinery. I used a 6mm drill to clear the holes and open up the narrow one to the correct size.
On reassembly all went together easily and the brake no longer binds.
I also re-torqued the swing-arm pivot bolt (the reason the bike was laid up as the original snapped) to 50lb/ft.
Apart from a good clean the bike seems good to go, just need to get her through the annual ministry of transport test(MOT) and buy vehicle tax before I can ride her on the road again.

Took Bholenath out for a ride last night. I did a lot of mods over the the winter, an hour or two at a time due to long work hours and "life". Still "ironing out the bugs", but I had a blast! :)  looking forward to better weather. ::)

Harshjain,

What did you have your multimeter set to, in order for it to work like a revcounter?

My TrailTech TTO does this by counting ignition pulses and doing a spot of arithmetic.

Harshjain,

What did you have your multimeter set to, in order for it to work like a revcounter?

My TrailTech TTO does this by counting ignition pulses and doing a spot of arithmetic.

I had it set to Frequency mode. Wrapped a single core wire around the sparkplug cable(this also picks up the ignition pulse count). Connected it to the positive of the multimeter and the negative was connected to chassis. Measure it to be 7.5Hz(900 RPM)
Changed my idling screw to set it around 8.2Hz(984 RPM)
Will check for the spark plug condition after a week and see if I need to adjust it any more.

For reference, the correct idle speed for the UCE engine is 1050±200 RPM.

This speed is needed to keep the oil pressure and system voltage up to where it needs to be.

Gone are the days of the "Thump".

Hey guys,

I'm not sure why we're a bit scared by low idle RPM on UCE. It is still possible, and I think the oil pressure at low RPMs is adequate. Many riders in the domestic market have the idle at a resting human heart rate, and the bikes keep on going.

Have a listen to a few examples:
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltkJRE5GLbY
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwNQvMYFqT4

- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI1ihE-zXzQ

Thing to note is that they're all on carbs, with auto decomp removed. On my B5 (EFI), with the decomp removed, I have the idle set around 800-900RPM. IMHO, low idle speeds are OK with these bikes as long as you have the auto decomp removed.

On the next scheduled service, I plan to record the voltage at the battery terminals on low idle RPM and will upload a short video clip on YouTube. Will report here on the forum. Unless Harsh can have a quick look/check before me  8). With the ECU and other sensors connected, there's a good chance that the system requires a decent amount of juice at idle, as compared with the carb versions.
