I did run into a problem putting all back together where the stud used to fasten the shock to the swingarm had the threads gauled when I removed the acorn nut.  I didn't have a metric die to chase the threads and ended up running a 3/8-16 SAE die over it.  Not really what I wanted to do but my options were limited.  It worked.

A metric die might not have helped you anyway - the studs on my 2011 swing arm are a BSF 3/8-20 thread, as are the upper shock mounting bolts - the only non-metric fasteners I've found on the bike so far.  I discovered this when I had to replace a broken stud, and we couldn't match it with anything available locally.  In the end, I replaced it with a UTS 3/8-24 stud (I think it was a 24 pitch thread)...

How about removing the centers stand and having a machine shop shorten it?  ::)

My thoughts except I'll probably do the work myself....

Turned both tool and airbox bolts round where they meet the frame. I can see for aesthetic reasons the way they are but they don't half get in the way. In fact I noticed it pulled the rubber seal slightly off when checking the air filter condition, may have pulled it back off when putting it back in. No further danger of that.

Realised tonight that my fork shrouds squeak. Not overly long since the fork oil change. Probably have to take them back out again. Shroud looks central over the forks to me.

Might change to gaiters but would it ruin 'the look'?

You don't need to take them out to re-center them, just loosen the bolts.  I use a cardboard toilet paper or paper towel tube to do it.

Cut it in half the long way so you have two long curved pieces.  Loosen the shroud mounting bolts.  Stick one half in the front between the shroud and slider and one in the back.  This should center the shroud over the slider.  Now tighten the mounting bolt and remove the cardboard.  Repeat for the other side.

Make sure they don't rub the fender.  If they do, loosen the fender struts and move it out of the way.

What Scotty said - I had to loosen and center mine a few times to get them right.

Finally, and it seems like forever coming, got to my first 300 miles.  In the middle of changing the oil and about to put her all back together.  Between rain, being out of town, switching bikes, it's taken about 3 months.  Sad, but I'm happy.  Now I car ride up to 50MPH and not get killed in my town's traffic.  Took me almost 15 minutes longer today riding to work on very back roads in order to keep the speeds down.  Now, I finally feel like I ;) can begin letting the miles pile up some.  Oil looked clean, very little accumulation on the magnetic drain plug ends.  Was expecting a full on set of hair like I've experienced with my Ural but was pleasantly surprised.  Bike kick starts usually on the fist time after a couple of prepatory kicks with the everythign shut off.

I can now see your bike in all its glory, from all angles!  Thanks!

I like that bag attachment system - simple and effective!  8)

Thanks Matt.  That particular bag is expandable (can hold a helmet) and made to be carried around.  It has a handle and straps (if you like) to carry on your back.  I needed an easy way to get it on and off.  The built in "D" rings line up with the eyebolts I attached to the rack and the snap hooks add a bit of security while tooling down the road.  You could add a real lock for some added security of the bag.  That won't help what's in it, unfortunately.  Another reason for easy on/off so I can take it with me.

  • Yes, shrubberies are my trade. I am a shrubber.

Took a ride around Cambridgeshire
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
