Supprise. My guess is somewhere in the transmission. According to the parts book, that's where most of the needle bearings are. Plus, it seemd to be running fine. Splitting the case should be an adventure...

Are you sure it's a bearing?  A while back someone found a pin but I can't remember what it was from.  As I recall, it wasn't too hard to put back.

Positive. 9 & 1/2 needles and a couple assorted pieces of shrapnel.

Oh well. Maybe I'll add a kick start while I'm in there.

If your Royal Enfield is still under warranty any damage like this should be totally covered.

The "pin" that was mentioned by Ducati Scotty was a pin from the transmissions shifting cam plate.
As I recall, without that pin the transmission refused to shift into one of the gears.

Sorry to hear that!  I wouldn't call splitting the case an adventure - if I can do it, anyone can do it!

NO idea why it shows as removed, as I see it fine. Hmmm.
How about now?

Slapped the extended fender stays on my bike (3.50 front) and went for a 60 mile ride.  Ran like a champ in the cool air approx. 60F.  Found a nice clean deserted straight stretch of road and did some WOT - from my glances down, it looks like 83ish mph indicated is as fast as it'll run with me on it.

Good times!

Put 270+ miles on it this weekend, ran it till the low fuel light came on, poured in a gallon of 100 octane non ethanol gas I had in a backpack, rode it back home, put in a double dose of both Stabil marine and Seafoam, filled it the rest of the way up with 100 octane, removed the battery and threw it away, and parked it in the living room where it will sit for the next 3 months or so. I will be spending most of that time in the Portland/Seattle area. I wish I had a bike to ride while up there. I have a small dual sport, but no way to get it there.

Hopefully I will be able to get started on the carb conversion when I get back. By then it will be way too hot to ride in the Phoenix area in the daytime.

160 mile RT to Santa Fe.
I'm "technical support" for a couple guys with 500s there. Maroon C5 and a 2008 AVL in BRG.
Sold my Cobra seat to the AVL rider and installed it for him.
Funny how once you've quickly engineered something to fit you stand back and immediately see you could have done it simpler and easier.  :o
Once he gets the ride registered he'll take it to me in Albuquerque for a cleaner install, but for the moment he's tickled that he can plant both feet flat when idling.

Put mine up for sale on the interwebz. Conflicted....I really love it, but want to explore some more distance riding, including highway work. I know it CAN do it, but there are better tools. Also, may want to have the SO on the back for some, so again, there are better tools. Wish I had the funds to do both, but I don't. It really is the perfect Vermont back road bike. And mine is doing so well, too!
