After being disappointed with the finish from Royal Enfield I have manufactured a cover to hide the paint finish. Please contact me if you would like to purchase direct or visit my eBay listing via the link below.

That oblong patch of paint can be polished off, even a thumb nail will do. Early ones had a band around the silencer weld too.

Thanks for your input.why is the paint there in the first place.
Why pay £7000 .and start scraping pain off ? The paint also hides a horrible mig weld complete with spatter.my cover makes this weld and bracket more pleasing to the eye..

I was sure mine did not have the paint. I quick look showed I was wrong, its there.
In a year & half of ownership I never saw it. I guess then it doesn’t bother me either!

Where can you find an equivalent British-style twin that looks, runs and works as well as the RE for less, or even the same price? Here in the States, when I bought my Interceptor, the next option was a Triumph that cost 150% of the RE price. That price difference had to come from somewhere. I didn't find spending 5 minutes with a rag and carb cleaner removing the excess paint to be that much of an imposition.

Looks like a clever solution, well done and affordable.
Congrats, @Graham Gaskell, on your innovation and getting up from the couch and doing something ;)

I never noticed this patch of paint either. Just went out to the shop and sure enough it's there. Well, it was there. Took literally 45 seconds to come off with some carb cleaner and a rag.

Thanks for replying everyone.
Mixed feelings on my bracket cover.
Spend your money as you wish nothing wrong with that.i am adding a bit of quality  at a fair price ..
Does carb cleaner remove weld spatter
And clean up a mig weld.

Thanks .we have just determined why the paint is there .paint it again. And fit cover job done and improve the quality and finish.

That is why the galvanized paint is there and really should stay there (or be replaced).

So the zero cost solution is to remove the excess paint and just leave the weld and a small margin covered to prevent any corrosion. Or the OCD solution of the nicely made SS cover which I suspect the mounting bracket will eventually crack at the bend due to exhaust vibration and the work hardening of the material at the bend radius.
Honest opinion, a solution in search of and problem.

If you fix all the little optical and some un-practical issues that come with a 650 the bargain is gone.

That's exactly why I didn't remove the paint from the weld, just the area around it.

Honestly, it's really hard to even see this part of the bike--at least on the Interceptor. Maybe it's different for the GT650.

Until this post, I never saw it on my GT.

Consider "chrome" Rustoleum paint after sanding. Or sand mask and spray with more galvanized paint.
