Indeed it's a great area for motorbiking. But also more and more dangerous. They haven't done anything for many roads since decades, except repairing with quick patches, if at all. At unknown curves, you never know what to expect.

Great thread, very nice too see the different bike styles. All colors have something special, and look WAY better in a natural environment than in the catalogue.

This is the old 2019 headlight, but retrofitted with an aftermarket clear lens H4 insert:

I changed that before RE decided to put clear headlight lenses on the twins.

Indeed it's a great area for motorbiking. But also more and more dangerous. They haven't done anything for many roads since decades, except repairing with quick patches, if at all. At unknown curves, you never know what to expect.

Don't get me started on that... Just shortly after I had that cow chat yesterday the road turned into something scary that doesn't deserve the name "road". Potholes and bumps all over the place, old patches that stand out an inch or more, and the green grass growing out the cracks in the tarmac...
Their most common attempt for a "fix" is to put up a 50kmh or even 30kmh speed limit.

And even if they try to do some serious repair they do it only on the outside half of the lane, so you have a seam and most times a real edge in the middle of your lane. Riding in the middle makes your bike lurch from one side to the other like a drunken sailor, I love those Pirellis...

So you have to decide to use either the left or right half of your lane. Left half brings you close to any oncoming traffic, especially nice with wide all wheel driven tractors approaching in a narrow backroad. Most backroads here are so curved, that when riding on the right half of your lane the bike constantly tries to force you into the ditch (almost all roads have deep ditches here, most of the terrain is below sea level).

Sadly the condition of roads in the UK is also terrible in many areas, pot holes, tarmac breaking down creating an inconsistent surface, lose gravel/chippings on the surface.
In the area where I live you really have to keep your eyes pealed with the variability of road surfaces.

I never really think about taking photos when I am out riding but I will have to do so. This past Sunday morning I got out before the temperatures climbed too far into the upper 30s C and rode through the city and out to the Circuit of the Americas Formula One racetrack. It was closed and I didn't feel like asking the security guards if I could go in and putter about the parking lot, but I might do so next time so I can get a shot of the RE near the track, or at least the grandstands. Everything is cancelled here (no MotoGP or F1) but someday we'll restart and I'll ride out to see the high-speed machines in person.
