I was in Branson, MO last week and spotted this:

Amphicar.
Could traverse small lakes and inland waterways. Not good in rough water.
My father once contemplated buying one in the 1960s to get across the lake if the ferry wasn't operating.

There's a little club of them here in Massachusetts. I've seen them meet on a little sand bar in a lake in, oddly, Lakeville, MA.

Thanks 'NVDucati'! It's hard to make out the driver/skipper. We Amphibians are a pretty tightknit group, so I'd likely know him from our "Swim-In" gatherings, our our own online forum. One of our major luminaries, a great fellow named Roger, who's likely restored more Amphicars over several decades than the number of times I've sailed my 26X, is up there in the Ozarks, but I don't think it's him.
As for Amphicars in rough weather, they actually don't do too badly. I've been caught in some really nasty squalls, one rough one in particular right on the Potomac was quite memorable, without undue alarm. With one's four keels (the wheels) and top up you'll be just fine, as were those four British madmen who crossed the Channel in '65 during a Force 5 to 6 gale, and then carried on by road to the Frankfurt Motor Show. Unlike billionaire Richard Branson's subsequent record attempt crossing in some quarter-million dollar successor amphibian just a decade or so ago, I don't believe the two Amphicars needed to be hauled up and off the beach. They had two cars both with Vermont plates. They were doing commercial tourist rides from the "Landing" in Branson.
Pretty sure the two guys were hourly employees. I wanted to go but was with other folks who, incredibly, had no interest. Didn't ask the price.

I thought I had a photo of an Amphicar in my 1960's Panama City parade photos. But I guess I was mistaken. Attached is the only amphibian photo that I could locate. ;)
I will toss in a jeep photo as a bonus.
