Title: Removing Main Bearings

Any tips on removing the main bearings.

I heated the cases per the manual and banged the case on a wood block. The bearings won't move.

You might try heating the cases again then shock cool the bearings themselves, if you haven't already tried this.

To remove bearing races from the case the only tool I used was a puller from Harbor Freight.

Would a slide-hammer style puller be a reasonable approach?

Not sure how that could work. On the timing side is a roller bearing that will rip apart leaving only the outer race...don't ask me how I know. The drive side is also a roller bearing on the inside. The ID of the bearings is small...how would you get the jaws into the bearings?

I think a slide might work if you could get under the bearings...timing side would be difficult. One of the problems would be possible damage to the case tho.

You have to get the case hot enough. 250-300 degrees Fahrenheit is about right.
You should be able to just lightly tap the outer race out when it is like that. If they don't tap out easily, then you don't have it hot enough.

Clean it out well, remove any plastic or rubber things, and put it in the oven.

I have done this over two years ago.  I do not remember exactly how I have done it but that was the only puller I had so no chance I used some other one.  Now I would probably attach Gopro to a hat and made a video.  Unfortunately, I did not have this idea then.

I got all the bearings out. The drive side bearings came out once I got a bit over 300F. The timing side I tried and tried and it wouldn't budge until I got the case temp up to 350F measured with an infrared. Even then I had to use a little mechanical force to move it. It wouldn't just fall out. It came out like there was a bit of "oil glue" holding it.
