Title: 2016 Royal Enfield Interceptor
Post by: techtonix on July 08, 2015, 06:03:14 pm
This is a 2005 Royal Enfield Military Bullet with a 1973 Yamaha xs650 twin engine. The engine puts out 50hp+ bringing the bike to a top speed of 110mph and highway cruising speed of 80mph.
I had a dilemma, I live 10 miles outside the city, at the top of a hill via a highway. I loved taking my Bullet into town every day, but the hilly highway commute was tearing the engine apart, even with regular tappet adjustments, oil changes, and so forth. After the third engine failure I decided to make an Interceptor instead of getting a different bike.  As it turns out, with only minor frame modifications , the XS650 engine fits right in.  I miss the old thump and the low RPM torque, but I am actually enjoying the bike more now, as I can keep up with traffic. I re-used the old Bullet muffler to help maintain some of the original noise and looks.

Fantastic, man! I was thinking about that engine in a GT the other day. I'm thinking if/when my 535 goes bad I'll look for a crashed Hinkley twin and Trifield it.

Indeed. How about measuring yours up for me to see if it will fit nicely?  ;)
