Title: Road Dog Tribute Custom for sale
Post by: axman88 on April 02, 2021, 04:10:30 pm
Next to one of Gelbke's actual Road Dogs, this custom might look like a Mini Cooper next to a 1974 Lincoln Town Car, but, with it's flat six Corvair engine and extended wheelbase, it's still a lot of two wheeler.

Definitely something you don't see everyday.  Who is that iconic 50's man emblazoned on the tank?  Is that Wild Bill?

I sat on the original Road Dog, while it was on it's trailer, which is as far as I want to go on the thing. This one is far nicer, but I think the logo on the tank is Dick Tracey.

I found more information on this particular custom bike in this article, which includes some excellent pictures of a fine example of another Gelbke creation, and offspring of the Road Dog, an "Auto Four".

Back in the day the Auto Four was advertised in the back pages of Cycle magazine. Thanks for posting the article, Gelbke isn't much heard of these days but he was a very clever guy, as I recall he was an engineer at NASA in his younger days, that came to a very bad end.
