Hello, I am new to the forum and new to royal enfields. I recently purchased a 2001 bullet 500 a couple months and have been working on it here and there a bit. A few weeks ago I was messing with the wiring (being that its all hanging down and not tied up) I was able to get some of the lights to turn on and when I had my back turned for a split second I noticed smoke coming from the ignition box (Boyer). come to find out a couple of my wires accidentally touched causing it to fry the box. So, my questions are...
Is there a replacement micro digital ignition I can purchase in the US? Different brands?
It looks like someone added this. What ignition system use to be on this?
I found the schematic on snidal and im not seeing this on there which makes me think not was changed.
The number on my engine, on the bottom of the cylinder, is 1B5-10502A if this helps.

Your Bullet would have had points ignition as delivered from the factory.

There WAS a US made aftermarket electronic ignition which seems to have disappeared. If you fried the Boyer your best replacement might be one of these:

The company was founded by ex Boyer staff who wanted to make a better product. I have used on on a Bullet successfully.

They are imported into the US by JRC Engineering, https://jrcengineering.com They sell the twin-cylinder version but it works fine with just one ignition coil, it's the same kit of parts. Pazon also market these:

OR you could go back to a points ignition system. I prefer a magneto!

Welcome to the Horde of the Archaic! I'm just sorry these electrical woes seems to have driven you here.

It seems our esteemed "Mr. Magneto", Adrian II, has already placed some solutions on the table for you. You could also try reaching out to our Forum hosts, Hitchcocks in England at https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/. They should also be able to get you sorted out. I believe they sell just the Boyer boxes to suit your situation like this one: https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/19155, but it might be best to just give them a holler first.

Like yours, mine also has an electronic unit fitted by a previous owner, some "no-name" one that hasn't given me any trouble, but going back to the original points setup, as Adrian II suggested, wouldn't be the worst idea, might be a bit cheaper, and still do the job well. Did you get any "old parts" with the bike? 'Cause what you need might just be rattling around in the bottom of that box.

Well of course this is very doable, you can find many suppliers of electronic ignition, mind you l would sort your harness out first, bikes don't just fry at the ignition in fact they can fry anywhere l take an educated guess the circuit was not fused, fuse all circuits with correct amps.
