1980 - The CBX was a one off ride. 29 years young at the time! Great times.

I remember racing against a CBX at Summit Point in 1982.  The engines are so wide that the first thing to touch down is the engine case.  He lowsided in practice and ground down the engine case all the way to the end of the crank.  That was one expensive mistake!

Thanks guys,my mate was very timid of his cbx so he asked me to race it for some pics and to see what it went like unleashed. He was dead chuffed, even though the lovely footrests were trashed. The guzzi le mans was the faster bike.

I had a GS1000N (mag wheels) in those days, it'd leave a CBX in it's wake and was easier to maintain. Nothing sounded like a CBX though, especially one with aftermarket pipes.

I had a Gpz 1100 B1 at the time, the only cbx I came across was at the strip . It dropped a valve on its 2nd run  :-\

As a teen; I had a CBX poster on the wall, that also featured an appropriately chunky model. Great bikes!

Yeah the problem with the cbx was its weight. The normal braking points for my guzzi le mans were about 30-40 yards further on from where i had to brake on the cbx, plus excessive brake fade on the honda. My biggest opponents were the suzuki gsx1100s.

For what it's worth Dr. Peter Frank, one of the founders of the American WERA road race organization just died, so there's been a lot of chatter back and forth this weekend from guys I haven't heard from in awhile.  It's good to have these kinds of conversations lest we forget how much fun we all had.

What a great photographer he panned those shots perfectly, 1980 the best years, the greatest years we will all remember forever, if only we could go back in time.
