Getting ready to do the coil inserts for the the bolt holes on my engine case that hold the primary cover on. It's been a while since I've done a coil and just wanted some tips and tricks for making sure of a successful install. I'll be using E-Z Lok 5/16 24 coils and tap. Thanks!

Dont kow about EZ Locs, but Helicoil kits come with all the tools you need to do the job. You'll probably need a drill motor and tap handle. Drill out the hole that needs rethreading with the small drill. If it goes all the way through, that's fine, but if you have a hole with a bottom, You should get a drill stop for the bit. This is a collar that has a set screw to clamp onto the bit so the bit can only go as deep as the collar lets it. After drilling, blow the shards out of the hole, then run the tap into the hole. A little oil in the hole will help the drill. Turn the tap in a couple of turns, then back it out to get the scrap aluminum out then turn it in a couple of more turns and repeat, continue until the tap gas either come out the other side or hits bottom. Blow out the cuttings again. Put the insert on the insert tool and screw it in go down into the hole a thread or so, then back out the tool. Reach into the hole with a a pair of needle nose pliers, if the hole is big enough, or if not, a small screwdriver and break the little tang off that is across the bottom of the hole. Clean the hole out of any debris. You're done.

I'll refrain from reading the instruction sheet to ya ;)
clean any cutting (tapping) oil out thoroughly.... flush with plenty of brake cleaner ..... before inserting the coil.
Then wait a good long time to allow the adhesive to cure before inserting the bolt.
else .... you end up with a slick hole and a fat bolt. (the coil will adhere to the bolt instead of the hole.)
Not that I know this from prior experience .........

The main thing is keeping the drill straight when drilling and keeping the tap straight when tapping. They make jigs that will do this. ERC

Are you supposed to use any kind of thread locker on the coil? Seems like I remember doing that in the past.

Are you supposed to use any kind of thread locker on the coil? Seems like I remember doing that in the past.
make sure it is well cured before final assembly.... otherwise the coil may end up glued to the bolt instead of the engine casing.

+1. A tiny dab on the bottom of the hole before putting the coil in and let it cure overnight. You don't want it to bleed through to the inner threads.
