Title: Electricaly cornfused
Post by: rev. ron on June 29, 2018, 02:19:26 am
I’m over my head! Power spikes blew all my lights one morning, so I have been replacing electrical parts. I have the stator out but I can’t find an exact match or a new black TCI box. I don’t know what can interchange and what can’t. I also want to get rid of all unnecessary wires, but don’t know what I need to make the bike run and charge. Does anyone know of of a RE guru near Fort Collins, Denver area that could help me? Thanks!!! Ron

Go to the menu up in the left margin and click on CMW Store. You will find the phone number there to call Tim. Tim is the super parts guy from the Original Classic Motor Works. He can help you with a Black OR a Green TCI, I believe. He may also be able to lead you to a shop although it might be in Denver  :) :)(http://)

Always tell us more about your bike when you ask questions.

Are you sure all the parts you replaced are blown? The stator is quite a long way down on my list to remove or change. #1 suspect is the rectifier/ regulator. If this fails you can get  a pretty high voltage appearing at your battery terminals. Apart from bulbs blowing the only other parts that could fail quickly under higher than usual voltage are the coil and/or TCI box.

Have you carried out any checks, such as disconnecting the RR and seeing if the bike produces a spark when kicked over?

I recommend not carring out any other work until the bike is running and charging properly. The mod-while-you-fix route can lead to complications. The man who chases two rabbits catches neither, as they say.
