It's understandable that some members prefer anonymity but I would say that it should be compulsory their home country is shown.There are some very prolific members here who only have a nickname on their details.

AGREED!!

As one example of why this is a good idea, too often a poster refers to some item they bought for their bike without saying where they are or where they got the part, leaving everyone to wonder if it is available to them easily, without going on a Google hunt for it.

Anonymity is a valid concern, but listing your country in your avatar (not just in your profile page), is NOT going to lead to any egregious spammer activity, or invite other internet ne'er do wells into your computer.

It's probably more of an issue since this forum has slowly morphed from a USA-specific forum (with overseas members allowed) to a more international one replacing the Hitchcocks' forum. If members' country of residence is not made a thing, any of us posting about the goodies we've purchased could simply say WHERE we bought them.

Yes, it's a good idea.
Sometimes we need to ship bits to one another. Around the world shipping changes the consideration because of outrageous shipping costs.
