So...what's everybody doing about battery?  Sticking with the OEM...which I presume is the old fashioned flooded lead acid, with vent/drain tube.

Upgrading to AGM  "sealed"?

Super expensive upgrade to Lithium?

I assume OEM is AGM but specs/owners manual don't say.

I also have a query into RE re 'official' fuel octane requirements. US owners manual says....91 RON but we don't use RON in US we use (RON + MON) /2. I assume it runs on regular 87 R+M/2 but specs should state that. Not a high output engine of course. Like FortNine says it might have been competitive in the 60's.

past machines: BSA Lightning, HD FX1200, 75/6 BMW, 90/6, R80RT, R100RT, K75S, current machines: DR650, DL650.

Good point. I didn't notice the RON in the manual. We use AKI. US, Canada and Brazil???

Octane rating conversions
EURO RON   MON   US: (R+M)/2
90   83   86.5
92   85   88.5
95   87   91
96   88   92

Interesting that they call it a "sealed" AGM battery...yet it comes with an acid pack which you have to install the acid.   The AGM batteries I use on my bikes, and for airplanes and other vehicles, come completely sealed, with the acid already in...

I found one video from India, where the factory original battery on the INT650 leaked...and wouldn't hold charge.  It was replaced under warranty...but leaking acid made a mess of the bike!

When I replace my OEM battery I will replace it with one of these.

The Yuasa AGM batteries I buy come with acid to add. I assume they can't be shipped with acid installed.

All of the AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries I've ever seen or heard of are sealed.  There aren't any filler caps on them so it would be next to impossible to "fill" them with acid.  AGM batteries do have a small outlet vent but that is just to keep internal pressures from building up.

I believe its more to do with shelf life. there is a limit to how long an activated AGM can sit around unused.

Yuasa do state that once you activate a battery by adding the acid you should seal it and never open the seal again :d

I get AGM batteries, with the acid already in...shipped to me all the time...I order 8 at a time for my flying club.  Have ordered many for my motorcycles...shipped right to my door.

When I bought a Quad out of China it came with a battery, acid, and a "top" with instructions to add acid, charge or leave for 24hrs and press lid on - became "sealed" in that you couldn't get lid/top  off again, didn't leak when inverted and had no breather.....
