Two married guys go out on occasion for a guys night out of drinking. One says to the other, I don’t get it. Every time we go out I come home and I shut the car motor off and coast into the garage. I take my shoes off in the garage and tippy toe into the house quietly shutting doors behind me. I go in to the bathroom where I undress then tippy toe to the bed and slip in oh so gently under the sheets. Every time my wife wakes up and scolds me for being out so late drinking with you.

His buddy says you’re doing it all wrong. Come flying in the driveway and skid in to the garage, get out and slam the car door and storm into the house slamming the house door behind you. Go into the kitchen and open and slam some cabinet door. Then go into the bedroom undress and jump into bed. Slap your wife on the ass and ask her if she’s as horny as you are. Guaranteed she won’t wake up.

people don't believe me when i tell them that retirement is hell.
every morning you must decide what to do. get out of bed? why? what day is it? who cares? what time is it? doesn't matter, not late for work. i swear if it wasn't for dr's appointments i wouldn't even need a calendar.

I sometimes miss commuting 80 miles a day in all weathers like i did for 7 years for a period ,or even commuting just 32 miles a day getting stuck in traffic on the local ring road.
Being able to get up when you feel like it is also nothing like getting up much earlier to get to work.
I also miss being tied to a desk most days churning out drawings on a computer . Having to ride around on motorbikes a lot of days now when the weather is fine can be a bit of a chore - but we all have our cross to bear !

My kids have already got a long list of things I am expected to do for them if I ever retire.

I am 67 and definitely not considering retiring as I will have no time to do anything .

I retired almost 20 years ago. After a while being retired starts to feel like a day-to-day job.  ::)

I spent the bulk of my working life as an Aerial device/ Truck and heavy equipment mechanic/shop foreman with the Connecticut Light and Power Company.  Due to the nature of the utility business, I was on call 24/7, 365 days a year and subject to recall (at company expense) if I was on vacation and they needed me for storm or emergency work. Many weeks I worked 80 or more hours, and in some instances, like Hurricane Sandy would literally live at the shop for weeks at a stretch.

I retired 4 years ago at 66 and have been busy as a one-armed paper hanger just about every day since. Looking at my life now it amazes me I even had time to go to work, let alone enough time to work a hundreds of hours of overtime every year.  ;D ;D ;D

FWIW I wouldn't say every day at CL&P was a great one, some were downright horrific, but overall, they were far more good days than bad ones, and while I'm glad to be retired, I do miss the work and comradery that went with it.
