Title: 998 Musket V-Twin Engine Case Production Beginning
Post by: ace.cafe on July 25, 2013, 12:17:06 am
Just a heads-up to those interested.
Aniket is casting a small batch of 998 Musket engine cases, probably next week. It's looking like single-digit production for this run, possibly only seven.
I don't know what the price is going to be yet. He has to run these seven to see exactly what the costs of casting and machining are going to be in the actual production environment, so he can make an accurate price.

After these are sold, I suppose there will be more small batches made as he moves along. So, things are happening, and this V-Twin is actually making it into the first stages of real production.

Exciting stuff!

This is really cool!  I loved this motor the 1st time I saw it.  It is indeed an exciting time for RE owners now that these V Twins are going into actual production!

ERC,
We can get you one, but I don't know if it will come from this first batch. There's probably only going to be seven from this first casting run, and I think there probably are already more than seven people on the list.
Depending on the final price, some people may drop off the list if it is too rich for them.
So, I will keep updating any info that I get.

Is there a ballpark, shot-in-the-dark estimate?

Not really. It's up to Aniket.
Won't be cheap.
I'd say it's safe to assume that it will be less than $5k for the bare cases alone.
Not sure how much less. I was hoping for about $2500, but after my last conversation with him, I don't think $2500 is going to be happening.

Well, Ace, I'd call that a ballpark, shot-in-the-dark estimate!  From someone who knows something about the subject... thanks!

This is a massive undertaking and I would also guess not cheap. In fact unless he were cranking them out with CNC while he slept they have to be expensive. However....totally cool I wish him a lot of success.

Just for Aniket to get this far is an amazing achievement. If any one can make a success of this he will. He doesn't just talk about it, he does it.

How does one register the Musket with the DMV and/or auto insurance. It sure will not show up in any database.

It would be registered under the frame number of the donor bike.  Make sure your donor bike is not stolen.

I wonder if he could stamp your frame number on the case for you or if he's only marking them with serials in series?  Even so, he could mark both "VIN MBRXXX#$%" and "Musket Ser. 0012".  There's no reason ACE can't mark cases "Fireball Ser. 0012" even though the engine is already marked with a VIN.

We serial number the cylinder heads, and mark them with the "Ace" name in electric pencil.
The first ten heads were actually hand-signed in electric pencil by Joe Mondello, but after he died we had to change to "Ace" instead of "Joe Mondello".

I don't know how Aniket plans to serial number the engine cases for the V-Twin.

This is great.  I had the fortune of meeting Aniket last month.  Awesome guy -- you can see that he has his heart and soul into this.  In my opinion that is a amazing deal on a unique, bespoke engine.  It looks even better in person.  I really hope the motorcycle world can appreciate what an awesome achievement this is.  I'm greatly looking forward to the first Musket-Fireball build.  I have a feeling that the first 6 cases will go FAST.  I wish I was one of the buyers.

I'd encourage those of you reading to check out his site again.  Much has been added.

What do we think about this?
Musket 998 V-Twin in a custom featherbed cafe frame, using your donor Bullet front end and rear end?
Custom made featherbed frames and kits also will be available for the single cylinder Bullets too, using Bullet front/rear ends.

Voila!

Once I'm back in the States, I really think my 350 engine will be headed to you guys for a Manx-y type hi-revving job with one of these frames.

Now, where to score another 5-speed box??  Hmmmm.

Well, I guess Tom beat me to it and showed you guys the Featherbed pic :-)
Seriously, how well that frame is made cannot be conveyed via my grainy phone camera. The one we plopped the motor into had already been powder-coated, simply superb, show-quality finish.
Many thanks to all of you for your encouragement and support.
If anyone is interested in building a Musket, please let me know, I'm hoping to be busy this winter!
Very best wishes,
Aniket

Beautiful, Aniket! Really makes me wish I'd bought before the UCE came out.
Got a bud up in Santa Fe, though with an AVL. Hmmmmmm..........  ???
