I was reading on-line that Dan Holmes of DRS Cycle was attempting a Land Speed Record with his Bullet 500 this last Sept/Oct. Any information on how that went? Top Speed Realized? Trying again next year? I see that he was looking for funding for the event, I wouldn't mind kicking in $50 of he is trying again next year. (I did find some info on-line, but any new would be appreciated, also ~ is he using the same "96" that he does the vintage racing with?) Also, what is the record for a 500cc pushrod bike, 122.something?
Thanks!

I think I read somewhere that Dan was having health problems.
-
I had heard that also.

Dan has had health problems for several years now. He has heart trouble so that is why he closed his shop. I feel lucky to have bought my Bullet from him in 2003. He is also a Professional and a PERFECTIONIST which is why I believe he was dealer of the year for a couple of years.
A little story about Dan: he actually tried to talk his customers out of buying a Bullet. This was his way of qualifying you to make sure that you understood that these were not quite your typical plug'n play motorcycles!!
His machine was not ready for the attempt this year but he and his Team are still shooting for next year.

Ummm. I wonder how many he succeeded in changing their minds?

As a little side note Bill "Slam" Dunkus (owner of Interstate Motorcycles and host of the RE REunion/ Rally on the river) is going to try to do the same next year.
Here is a little bit on it,

It will be interesting to see what happens.

NOT ME!! Dan is smart. By qualifying his buyers he had a better idea of what he was in for as their dealer as well as he was making sure that the customer knew what they were buying into. Let's face it; these things ain't yer plug"n play japco's...
He was a 6 hour drive from me but I knew that I wanted him as "My dealer". In the beginning I had a few glitches while my Bullet broke me in but he was a phone call away and talked me thru everything.
On a side note - I have also done business with Bill "Slam" Dunkus being geographically central twixt Goshen Indiana and Rolla Missouri. I feel Lucky to have been able to deal with both these Enfield GURUS that are trying a record run. As a matter of fact... Dan and Slam are the only other people to have touched a wrench to mine so I've got to be part of a lucky minority!
