Title: Fuel Tap Bowl Replacement
Post by: jdrouin on March 03, 2013, 03:44:53 pm
Anyone know where I can get an OEM fuel tap filter bowl for the petcock that came on the 2007 Bullet Classic? I tried to tighten mine a little bit this morning and it stripped right out.

It's the threaded plastic bowl circled in the attached picture. Not sold separately by our host and I'm having trouble locating one online and at shops in town.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks, ERC, but that's not quite what I need. It's the little 1/4" (or whatever) threaded bowl that screws in to the underside of the petcock, just below the lever. It has a slot on the bottom for a flathead screwdriver, if that helps.

If so, PM me your shipping info.  You can have the whole petcock assembly; I replaced it with a new one a while back. Incidentally, my bike is a 2002 Classic.

Excuse the way photobucket cut off the text for some stupid reason, even though it was well within the picture when I saved it.

Yes, that's exactly it. Much appreciated.

I would recommend the keyed petcock that our host sells. Much better part than the stock one with the theft deterrent advantage of being keyed. The key is marked on and reserve. The cost is about $15. I installed it about 3 or 4 years ago with not one problem.

Got your PM, jdrouin.  I'll get the fuel tap assembly out to you USPS in the next couple days.

When the threads stripped on mind I found out that the bowl is not available separately. I cut the "stem" off the bottom of my tank and drilled and tapped it 1/4 NPT so I could use a universal petcock.

I'll be getting one of those.

Rotten thief pulled the fuel line and stole half a tank of gas.

Made a smelly mess when I turned the fuel on at start up.

You got to be kidding me..Stealing fuel from a motorcycle..Does the keyed petcock require that the key remain inserted to turn from on/off/ reserve?   I have a habit of shutting off the fuel as I'm headed up the road to the house and driveway..Price is right that for sure but  just another PIA security feature and extra key to keep a eye on too.... :o

The key stays in while riding. I put a long fob on the key for a reminder to pull it out. The key makes it easier to switch to reserve also.

That gas thief must have really needed to cut his grass to steal that little bit of gas.  >:(

Gotcha, the key has to be in place when switching up to reserve...Hope it doesn't jingle out when u need it the most.... Not that it would happen on one of these guys  ;D

Mine is labeled in both English and German.

Makes me wonder what bike the taps were originally made for.

I did figure out the fork lock on my Bullet is the same one from same supplier that BMW got then from for their older bikes.

Update

Found it.

 Karcoma in Germany makes them.
Also it appears ours were used at one time by BMW air heads on the left lobe of the fuel tank.
Precisely which models and years I haven't yet figured out but I am leaning towards early to mid 70's.
