Probably the most iconic Scandinavian car ever made was the Volvo Amazon. It had relatively durable 4 stroke engine and a fancy coupé design. Might have turned into something like a porsche 911 or ford mustang if the scandinavians were not as progressive as they are and kept the model line alive. It's really small car measured on todays standards, about the size of the 1960ies porsche.

I used to own a 1974 Volvo 144GT sedan. What a beast that was. It came with an American automatic transmission that would shift into a higher gear at 2000 rpm completely bogging the engine. At 1500 miles, all of the valve lifters wore down, limiting the car's top speed to 30 mph  :o, and had to be replaced under warranty as someone had forgotten to harden them at the factory. But I sure was impressed by its bumpers. They were huge aluminum I-beams, supported by hydraulic pistons. What a great vehicle for ramming a Ford or Chevy.  ;D
