Title: Duck bill breather tube.....
Post by: dewjantim on October 19, 2007, 09:20:39 pm
The best modification done so far on my RE is the installation of the duck bill breather tube, which is available (for cheap) from CMW. It replaces the line going from the engine to the air cleaner. The oil vapor leaving the engine is routed directly onto the chain, eliminating the need to lube the chain. My chain looks new and clean and shiny after using it for about 3500 miles. A properly lubed chain will extend its life and require less adjustment. A real good deal for less than 10 bucks.....Dew.

I agree - the duckbill is great. It also allows you to modify the battery box oil catcher arrangement.

I am glad you said that..  I had been wondering what made the noise - Not worrying, but noticeable.

The old timers refer to that noise as their duck quacking

I bought one of these in the UK for the equivalent of six bucks. Haven't fitted it yet as I have modified the std 2003 arrangement and that seems to work quite well so far. Was worried the longer exposed duck bill set-up might make a right ol' mess of the rear end. From what you're saying this isn't so?

I have very slight oil splatter on the center stand, and a rust free chain. That I can live with.

Less mess than lubing your chain, which you never have to do again.....Dew.
