Title: Are there better valve springs available?
Post by: potboiler on November 27, 2013, 12:49:28 pm
I've just read the last post by Ace.Cafe where he says that the AVL engine has very poor valve springs. I was wondering if anyone has fitted better ones and what difference they made to the running of the engine.

I'm sure that there are some.
The main issue with the stock springs relates to the bounce at 5800 rpm. If you don't go over 5800 rpm, then they work okay. If you get the "S cams" from Bullet Whisperer, then that seems to have a profile that settles them down. Then you can go over 5800 rpm.

My statement was meant in a performance context.

Bullet Whisperer fitted competition valve springs to my 500 AVL project bike's head, more as a precaution really.

That said, my Electra-X had no problems with the extra RPM on stock valve springs with the set of  "S" cams Bullet Whisperer lent me!
