Title: changing speedo dial
Post by: owenant on January 25, 2013, 02:26:04 pm
I need to change my speedo from mph to kmph.

Can anyone direct me to some info on how to either, replace the speedo altogether or change the face.

Thanks

Many Enfield speedometers from India are marked with both mph and kph.
You should be able to find one on Ebay.

How would one advance the odometer on a new speedo to match the old one?

Remove the speedo cable from the wheel and hook up a drill to the cable end.  EVERY slowly check to see which direction on the moves the speedo needle forward.  And then start drilling.  LOL  Very tedious job but this will work.

Thanks. I thought of that but to put 19,000 klm on a new speedo like that may take a week of 24hr a day running!

Is there some special tool to remove the glass cover and move the numbers?

I changed mine out and kept the original for proof of mileage. I don't think this is a requirement in Washington State. My last bike I purchased the mileage was not a factor in the registration of it.

there are speedo shops around that can alter the odos. If you can get into it, you can do it yourself. However most of the vintage speedos require a crimper to get the chrome band off and on. Check for a vintage speedo shop in your area.
