Title: Horn Bracket. Do-it-yourself Instructions.
Post by: Byway on March 15, 2008, 07:29:20 pm
I didn't care for the stock position of the horn on my '01 Bullet so I decided to make a simple bracket to place the horn into a more "period correct" orientation. It will suffice until I get around to buying a pretty Altette horn and bracket!

Dimensions:  3 1/2" long x 1" wide x 1/8" thick.

Purchase a  1" wide by 1/8" thick steel bar (I found one at Home Depot).  Buy a 12" one if you can find one since you'll only need about 3 1/2" of it.

Cut off a 3 1/2" piece with a hacksaw.  Drill one 5/16" hole about 1/2" from one end, and one 3/8" hole about 3/8" from the other.  Enlarge the 3/8" hole slightly with a rat-tail file to fit the horn.

Round the ends of the bracket with a flat file, if you like.  I rounded the end that mounts to engine mount (for appearance purposes) but chose not to bother with the horn end.

Paint, install (see important not below), and enjoy!

Note:  Make certain not to disturb the position of the horn's adjusting screw on the back side of the horn!  Make a note of it's position and, if it moves, make certain to re-adjust it when you're done of your horn will either sound weird or not work at all!  I had to tweak mine a little after I had it mounted on the bike but it was fairly easy to do.  If it's not set right, you'll know it!

This is a pic of the bracket:

This is a pic of the "rear" side of the bracket and horn after installation (note that the horn is mounted to the bracket with a nut on the actual adjusting screw!:

This is a pic of the horn.  Same location but with old-school orientation!  If only the stock horn wasn't so "homely" looking!  :P :

Let me know what you think about this mod. or if you have any questions!
