Al, you'd better do something about this rain! I'm not riding 400 miles in it just to shake Kevin's hand. I'll check again in the morning but right now it is  pouring.  :(

I am good with lunch, handshakes and air kisses, but I am not a hugger. Maybe Al can help out there.
Best Regards,
Kevin Mahoney

I think it would be good for Mr Kevin to come over to Watsonia Squire's open day. I think June 2011. He would be assured of a very warm welcome.

I think every one missed something in the first post.  Husqvarna bikes!  I thought they stopped making bikes years ago.

They are one of those companies that has traded owners for years. Now they are part of BMW, just like Mini. MV Agusta was owned by Harley for a $hort time. I think they paid $200 million (could be 20) and sold it back for 3 Euros. It is an easy way for old established companies to open new markets. You don't think BMW when you think of dirt bikes, but Husky? Oh yeah...

I rode about 400 miles today, half of it in the rain. I met Kevin Mahoney, Big Al and a bunch of other nice folks. I rode a G5 (comfy seat). Discovered an oil leak and got stranded on the side of the road 20 miles from home with  an electrical failure. It was the complete Royal Enfield experience in one day!

The oil leak is a slight seep at the sight glass but Kevin said to get that fixed right away. The electrical problem was the battery cable (plus side) broke right at the terminal. The sun was setting and it was raining! After replacing all of the fuses and checking all the wiring, I pulled the battery. The hold down strap/rubber band was missing. I don't know if that or something else caused the failure. Anyway, after stripping some insulation I jammed the bare wire in the battery screw hole and rode home.

If you get the chance to meet Kevin, do it! He's a great guy.

Blimey !  I thought that kind of Royal Enfield experience had become a thing of the past.
At least most of the details were there  -  rain, getting dark, way from home. For full authenticity of course it would have to refuse to start until you'd pushed it a few miles.....
Really though - sorry to hear about your roadside "adventure". Is your bike a C5? I ask because my G5 has the battery clamped in place by a metal clamp screwed each side. No rubber band!

2011 C5. The only thing holding it in place was the cover.

you're a legend, man.
let me know what we can do to help.
when I saw the first RE being put together, I wondered about
the big rubber straps. I put them on our first
parts order in Nov.
