Thanks for the great advice. I think I'll go with the "08 with a different sprocket and leave the rest alone. There are enough back roads here and if I do need the interstate, even the big Harleys keep there speed around 55-60 mph. I read a lot about letting the engine cool down while on long rides, do you just shut it down, or let it idle for a few minutes like we had to do with the old duce and half trucks in the military?
I had a friend that had a 196something Kawasakli W2SS-a copy of a pre unit twin old BSA.It was a single carb model and was a real torquey machine and loads of fun to ride.Jon
how about this line of thoughta stock 500RE can burble along at 55 mph all day. open up the exhaust and upgrade the carb add a 18 tooth sproket and at the same rpm the bike is now doing 58.5 mphadd a 535kit a high velosity oil pump and performance cams doing the same rpm the bike is now going 61.4 mph with a19 tooth sproket no sweat youve doubeled the horsepower. yes this takes a lot ofmoney. for a 6mph gain in base speed. heres the math 55 OVER 17 DIVIDED BY18=58.5 55OVER 17 DIVIDED BY19= 61.4I dont think the relyability would be adversly affected if a person mainly kept to these speeds.now to do the math on the prices bob bezin
