ebay number  180616955547

What's up with this '1958" engine?

Quote:
The engine has been modified as the photos show clearly.   Engines  in 1958 were simply not made with these specs.  But again, it is 100% a 1958.

I'm not selling it, and the charitable view is to say that whoever is, doesn't know much about Enfields. First up, it may be titled as a '58, but that style of frame was made for '54-55 only. Enfields did not supply KMh speedos back then, either.

The motor is a Yamaha - 'nuff said. Why the vendor hasn't put that little piece of information in the listing, one can only wonder.

I'll say it. The guy's an idiot.

He insists it's a 1958 model. It's most likely a modern Enfield India. Someone may have imported it illegally as a 1958 model, that's been done many times by people bringing Chan-Jiang BMW copies into the US to avoid new vehicle inspections and taxes.

OK. AT THIS POINT I WILL BE RELISTING THE BIKE FOR SOME MISCOMMUNICATION. I TAKE PRIDE IN THE FEEDBACK SCORE AS YOU SEE IT IS 100% AND CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO JEAPORDIZE THAT STATUS.  BUT TO CLARIFY, FOR THOSE THAT ARE ALREADY WATCHING ITEM AND POSSIBLY BIDDING, THE ENGINE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY YAMAHA TO BE AN XS650.  ENGINE NUMBER 447-111615.  I WASNT AWARE OF THE ENGINE TYPE UNTIL AN INTERESTED PARTY GAVE ME A WEBSITE TO GO TO AND CHECK THE SER. # THE TITLE AS I STATED, AND THE VIN AS STATED, ARE DEFINATELY 1958.  I WILL BE ADDING PHOTOS OF THE VIN AND THE TITLE ON THE NEW LISTING SO THAT THERE IS NO CONFUSION.  IF THERE IS ANY INTEREST YOU MAY CALL ME AT 724-971-6203 OR SIMPLY JUST BID.  SORRY FOR ANY MISUNDERSTANDING.

It's too bad he won't listen to those of us who know that bike's a fake in more ways than just the engine.

I told him that just because the title says "1958" it doesn't make that a 1958 motorcycle. If you import a bike like that into the US, it's easier to say it's a 1958 model than have to subject it to emissions testing as a new bike. There are a lot of people who've done that with bikes like that.
Whoever buys it is going to be very dissappointed when they bring it to a Royal Enfield owners rally and try to tell everyone that it's really a 1958 model.

Oh well. I have to admit that it's a very well done bike, even if it's being misrepresented.

Anyone know what happened to this sale?

It was taken off, then put back, then taken off, put back again (with pictures of the title showing the oficially legitimate, but still fake 1958 year), and now it's gone again.

I saw it yesterday (Feb. 8th) but can't find it now.

That looks like an Indian made frame to me, with an Yammy mill?  Very nice but not as advertised!

It looks like a '58. Enlarge the picks and examine closely. It doesn't look like the bike was hacked to do the swap. Maybe it can be returned to original if a motor and gearbox can be found. I think the bike looks great and with a little work it can look even better. I don't like the fact that the original motor was dumped for the XS motor but it is the biggest bang solution if your looking to ride your Bullet at highway speeds. This swap should have been done to an Indian built Bullet period!

That's not a 1958 English made frame!

They quit making frames like that in 1955 in England.

The guy claims it's a made-in-England 1958 Enfield. He's wrong (or he really is a liar!)

Trust me. I've owned Enfields since 1972, and am intimately aware of the history of them.    The only  way that's a 1958 model motorcycle is if it was made in India, and I doubt that's even the case.
It's a relatively new motorcycle that was brought in as a grey market bike before they were being imported to the US, and the easiest way to pull that off is have the vendor in India declare that it's a 1958 model.

As a side comment about the Yamaha XS-650 engine, The XS stood for excess vibration. Those things made the Bullet engine seem absolutely smooth. I had an SR-500 and TT-500 back in those days and the thumpers were much smoother than the twins!
